China Airlines has said that it is inclined to buy Boeing 747s to replace the long-haul fleet.
"For long-haul airplanes, we are leaning towards 744s (747-400s)." Roger Han said the plan to buy 12 A300-600Rs has not been finalised. He also did not say how many planes would be bought.
After pressure from the U.S.A., China Airlines is likely to buy 10 Boeing 747-400s and 12 Airbus A330s says the AWSJ.
To replace the A300-600Rs already at China Airlines, either the A330 or the Boeing 777 will be purchased. "For the replacement of A300-600Rs, we will only pick one type under the principle of simplifying our fleet," Han added.
The final deal is expected to be announced at the end of 2002.
