Boeing And Airbus Together?!

Thu Oct 03, 2002 11:44 am

I heard from an employee of Boeing's Helicopter Division that Boeing and Airbus are in talks about cooperating on the design and construction of a new helicopter. I could get nothing more from him. Anyone know more details?

That could never work simply because all the people on A.net who are anti-Boeing or anti-Airbus... well, they just couldn't handle it and something chaotic would ensue from that.

I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist, but....

are they only going to be talking about helicopters?

Does GATT or anything else cover international collusion or price fixing?

It must be very tempting....

There was an article in the Times newspaper in the UK about the co-operation between Boeing and EADS on designing and marketing helicopters - more information from a thread in August is here :-

I don't see why they shouldn't...it's not the first time the Big B and the Big A have talked about co-operating on a project.

After all the last major one was...let me see...oh yes, some madcap idea about constructing a giant aircraft. Didn't Airbus decide it would go ahead on its own...?

It would be interesting to see if Boeing and Airbus could work together.

The Philadelphia Boeing Aircraft plant builds the V-22 Osprey. Which if they can get the kinks worked out, I know Boeing would like to market as a short haul commuter a/c. I wonder if Boeing is talking to Airbus about a combination on the civillian Osprey?

UALPHLCS - Boeing were working on a civilian version of the Osprey, the Bell Boeing 609. Boeing decided to get out of the commercial helicopter business, and now Bell is teamed with Agusta on the project, now called the Bell/Agusta 609.
