AeroMexico to Start Only San Diego-Mazatlan Nonstops

New Nonstop Service Increases Convenience and Reduces Travel Time
Thursday October 3, 8:36 am ET

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2002--AeroMexico, Mexico's largest airline, today announced that it will start the only nonstop service from San Diego to the Mexican resort of Mazatlan on Nov. 11, 2002. SkyTeam partner Delta Air Lines will add its code to the new flights.
"AeroMexico's new service from San Diego to Mazatlan will coincide with the start of the winter travel season," said Rolf Hoehn, AeroMexico's Vice President, U.S. Division. "As the only nonstop flight, our service will offer customers more convenience and less travel time to this attractive resort destination. Our flights are perfect for a spur-of-the-moment getaway."

AeroMexico Flight #1175 will depart San Diego at 1:45 p.m. and arrive Mazatlan at 5:05 p.m. The return Flight #1174 leaves Mazatlan at 11:05 a.m., arriving San Diego at 12:35 p.m. The nonstops operate on Tuesday and Saturday.

This comes right on the heels of AM's announcement a few weeks ago about new nonstop San Diego-Loreto service. It is very good to see AM expanding at SAN!

Aaron,

Cool news! Do you know if this flight is intended to operate year-round or only seasonly? Also, please remind me about the dates and time of the Loreto flights--they're also in and out of SAN at midday, right?

Nicksair,

A mini-hub would be great, but even with the two new destinations from SAN, Aeromexico is only going to have eleven flights a week. Personally, I'd like to see Mexicana at SAN.

Lindy Field: The Loreto flights depart around the same time, but on Thursdays and Sundays.

With this, AeroMexico will have a total of 11 weekly flights from SAN.

What I'd really like to see is a nonstop to MEX. Perhaps it'll happen after the Loreto service stabilizes with a greater percentage of LTO-bound traffic. Until then, I think the most we'll see is new flights to tourist destinations such Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta or more frequencies to MZT, LTO, SJD, etc.

Great news for SAN and AM....not so good news for TIJ, this means that in no way will services to this destinations be increased or created from TIJ....AM would much rather receive payments in dollars for flights from SAN than in pesos from TIJ......as an example there are direct flights from SAN to Cabo San Lucas but not from TIJ and the market is definelty there.......does anyone know if this situation is also happening elsewhere?

Actually...I don't think TIJ is gonna be super affected by this. It sounds like AM is trying to get the North Country people (where all the money is). To fly non-stop to the big resorts. Definetly lots of money in that. Im glad to see AM doing well here in SAN.  Smile
