History Of "Continental West"?

Tue Oct 08, 2002 10:48 am

I found this photo (of a CO aircraft with "Continental West" titles) in the database while checking out old photos of Continental Airlines. Could somebody tell me the history of the "Continental West" experiment? Did it last as long as Continental Lite?

While you're at it, please tell me about "Houston Proud Express" service offered by Continental in the 1980s. Thanks for your help!

All I know about CO West was that it was designed to compete against PSA and Air Cal, I belive once they were taken over CO West disapeered.

The Houston Proud Express was operated by Emerald Airlines, from Austin, TX, contracted by CO and had a shuttle DC-9-20 that operated from HOU to IAH. The time frame was in the late 80's. The airplane was painted in and maintenance was performed by Emerald in Conroe, TX, (CXO) approx 25 miles north of IAH. The paint job was inspired by then Houston's mayor Kathy Whitmire's "Houston Proud" PR campain.
