Your Dream Round-the-world Itinerary

Wed Oct 09, 2002 3:32 pm

If you were to take a round the world trip, what cities/ countries would you fly to and on which airlines? I did one this year, and have one planned for next year. But here would be my ideal, purchased in Business through Star Alliance: (This fits the "under 29,000 miles restriction, comming in at 28,365 miles, calculated throug http://gc.kls2.com/):

LAX-ORD (UA)
ORD-MAN (BD)
MAN-ZRH (SQ)
ZRH-CPH (SK)
CPH-LHR (RG)
LHR-MAD (BD)
MAD-FCO (TG)
FCO-VIE-BKK(OS)
BKK-SIN-SYD (AC)
SYD-AKL-HNL (NZ)
HNL-YVR (AC)
YVR-LAX (UA)

What would others do?

Tickjedi, would eastbound routing be easier on the passangers?

How about adding additional requirement in routing -- itinerary has to include at least 1-2 stops on each continent!

KUGN,
Yeah I thought about going starting off eastbound and then going around but I think I'd like to visit Asia first then that way I can mellow out in Amsterdam, if ya know what I mean.  Big thumbs up If you're referring to flight times and jetlag as far as going eastbound first, the way I look at it, I make up the time lost as soon as I get back home.

How about adding additional requirement in routing -- itinerary has to include at least 1-2 stops on each continent!
My itinerary fits your new criteria as well.  Big thumbs up

ATL (home)-GIG
GIG-EZE
EZE-AKL
AKL-SYD
SYD-PER
PER-HKG
HKG-BKK
BKK-SIN (probablyby land over a months time)

Since this is a "dream flight", just stop me anywhere for fuel but fly me around the world on a Lear 35, GII, SR-71, B1-B and F-16 and I'll be happy!

Without worrying about cost . . . or Frequent Flyer mileage . . . and the amount of films used . . .

Singapore - Beijing (for photography at Capital Airport)
Beijing - Seoul (transit only - for photography at airside of Incheon Airport)
Seoul to Los Angeles (for photography at LAX Internatinal Airport)
Los Angeles to New York (for photography at JFK and EWR)
New York to Miami (to photograph the colourful subjects)
Miami to St Maarten (for some action shots at the beach-end of the runway)
St Maarten to Amsterdam (for photography at Schiphol)
Amsterdam to Paris (for photography at CDG)
Paris to Zurich (for photography with my dear friend - Andrew Hunt)
Zurich to Corfu (for lots of action photography of planes landing on runway 35)
Corfu to Dubai (via ATH - but mainly for photography at Sharjah)
Dubai to SIN (for more photography at Changi Airport . . . and then rush to have all the slides processed and scanned).

On a STAR RTW 26,000 miles program (calculated through STAR timetable)..
25,999 miles altogether. 32573 miles earned on LH M&M.

PER-SIN
SIN-BKK
BKK-KTM
KTM-VIE
VIE-FRA
FRA-BRU
BRU-LHR
LHR-MAN
MAN-IAD
IAD-CMH
CMH-ORD
ORD-GEG
GEG-SEA
SEA-NRT
HND-KIX

TPE-HKG

SIN-PER

I think SkyStar has developed a nice RTW ticket for the 26,000 miles one where you can earn 56642 points on LH M&m... 37 sectors...

But now STAR RTW tickets are limited to 28 sectors!!!! DAMN!!!

D*mn hand in a brace hit the wrong key just as I was putting the finishing touches on my list, flight numbers and all!

Here's as much of a reconstruction as I can do from memory

CLE-MEM Jumpseat on Federal Express 1237 --> A310
MEM-DTW Northwest Airlines --> DC-9-10
DTW-ORD American Airlines --> Fokker 100
ORD-SFO United Airlines --> 767-300
SFO-HNL Hawaiian Air --> DC-10
HNL-MAJ-KWA-KSR-PNI-TKK-GUM Continental Micronesia Flight 957 --> 737-800
GUM-HKG Continental Micronesia Flight 909 --> 737-800
HKG-SIN Singapore Airlines Flight 859 --> 747-400
SIN-PER Singapore Airlines Flight 215 --> 777-200
PER-SYD Qantas Airways Flight 582 --> 737-400
SYD-BKK Qantas Airways Flight 001 --> 747-400
BKK-JNB Thai Airways International --> 747-400
JNB-NBO South African Airways --> 737-800
NBO-DXB Kenya Airways --> (aircraft not noted, is that bad???)
DXB-(LCA)-ATH Emirates Airline --> A330-300
ATH-SVO Olympic Airways --> 737-400
SVO-FRA Lufthansa German Airlines --> A321
FRA-STN Ryanair --> 737-800
LHR-JFK British Airways --> Concorde (what else?)
JFK-CLE American Eagle Airlines --> ERJ-135

Ahhhh... If only I can click the right key now...

Let me change that last bit...

JFK-MIA American Airlines A300-600
MIA-GIG American Airlines 767-300
GIG-SCL Varig Brasil 767-300
SCL-DFW American Airlines 767-300
DFW-CLE American Airlines MD-80

There I made it to every continent. Without overlap, even.

Actually, I created (for fun) an itinerary using Delta & partners - interestingly, I'm pretty sure my dad has enough miles to get a round the world ticket in business class! So, here's what I set up (originating in my hometown, Jackson, MS):

JAN-ATL, DL 1108, 11:05-13:22 (1:17 total), MD-88
ATL-GRU, DL 105, 22:55-9:05* (9:20 total), B767-300ER
GRU-CDG, AF 455, 19:25-11:50* (11:25 total), A330-200
CDG-BKK, AF 162, 19:00-11:30* (11:30 total), A340-300
BKK-ICN, KE 654, 1:20-8:45 (5:25 total), B777-300
ICN-ANC, KE 85, 18:55-9:35* (7:40 total), B747-400
ANC-SEA, DL 1133, 0:50-5:04 (3:14 total), B767-300
SEA-DFW, DL 662, 12:55-18:41 (3:46 total), B757-200
DFW-JAN, DL 4743, 19:35-21:10 (1:35 total), CRJ-200
*Arrives next day

I've been planning this one for months, believe it or not!  Smile

Hurricane,

you are right. There is a code sharing WAW-MSQ between LOT and Belavia. Belavia flies Tu134 on this route.

LOT: As I stated before, Hurricane,

LOT doesn't have Tupolev planes for many years already. On MSQ-WAW they fly ERJ or 737.

I didn't think think they did anymore, but http://www.amadeus.net said TU5 was operated MSQ-WAW. Amadeus LIED! Maybe the flight they showed is operated by a codeshare parnter?....
 Big grin

But I guess it is operated by Belavia...thanks Jarek.
