CRJ -vs- ERJ

What do you think about the Canadian CRJ -vs- the Brasilian made ERJ?
Can jetways be brought up to both? Any differences in passenger or crew comfort? Which one would you prefer as a passenger? Which is better for the airlines?

Only the ERJ can be brought to jetways. I have flown both. I thought the CRJ was more comfortable and a little quieter. It should be noted that the FAA has grounded the use of the ERJ-145 Autopilot due to severe problems during rain and turbulance. I don't know if the plane is grounded or just the use of the autopilot.

The CRJ can be used at jetways but it needs a bridge to cover the gap between the jet and the jetway. With the ERJ one of it's selling points is the option to have the airstairs or not . Airlines like CO and I think AA have half of their fleet with airstairs and the rest without.

JI uses the jetbridges at RDU and DCA. There was a bridge to the aircraft at both location. The flight was very smooth and confortable. Although it did seem a little cramped.

They created special jetways at Terminal 2 a few years ago in Toronto for Air Canada's CRJs. I don't really understand this move, since Terminal 2 will be torn down in a few years along with Terminal 1, but they did it anyways. However, Comair does not use jetways in Toronto, since they go to Terminal 1.

I have not flown in either, but I have heard that they are both very good airplanes.

Unless the autopilot is on mel it is legal to use(as of 10/25/99 - 0255Z) there are sixty of them in use right now. If you have the AD post a link to it so I can check it out....

Well, I'm not sure but I think the Fokker F-28 uses a bridge to the gate as well.
If that is true this method has been used for quite a long time.

I like the CRJ better. The las time I was on one it was Winnipeg-Thunder Bay-YYZ. We never did get to use a jetway. I much prefer walking out on the field. Makes for some great photo shots. And I have seen jetwas on AC CRJs in YYZ.

The higher height of the Embraer ERJ and compatibility with current jetways shows great foresight. Walking outside is great in July in North America. It is not great in January when temperatures are well below zero farenheit. ERJ takes this event hands down!

I have flown on both a number of times and
I liked the ERJ better. The 1&2 seating is
a nice chance to sit alone if you like. The window
level on the ERJ is more comfortable also.
And I found the air noise to be better on the
ERJ also, which means its probably about the same
between the two.
