TPE Is NOT Responsible For SQ006 Crash: Report

Fri Oct 11, 2002 5:45 am

A report coming from Taiwan's highest authroity (not sure the english name; they usually observe the Government's act and the investigations on certain cases) has unveiled on Thursday, claims Taipei Airport and ATC is NOT responsible for the crash of Singapore Airlines SQ006.

The report claims that the crash was a completely human error contributed solely by SIA pilots. Airport and Air Traffic Control are not responsible for the crash, despite some minor error.

It is believed that the victims' relatives will use this asking Singapore Airlines for higher compensation. Compensation from SIA was USD$400000.

The report rejects Singapore Authority's accusation towards the fault at Taipei Airport.

Good for them.

And Singapore Airlines actually gave compensation of US$ 430 000.

Regardless of who's at fault, why are the victims only getting USD$420,000(or whatever the figure is) in
compensation from Singapore Airlines?

I read in the People's Daily(China's newspaper, online English edition) that 3 Chinese females reporters were in a train derailment accident not too long ago. Two died and one is completely paralyzed. The British rail company offered the family of the deceseased more than USD$1.4 million each.

Also, didn't each victim's family from Air France's Concorde crash also receive more than USD$1.1 million?

I realize no amout of money is ever going to bring back the victims or erase the pain of the survivors... but why is there such a big difference between Europea and Singapore?  Sad

Yes no money is going to bring them back but money is the only solution for the families.

At the time, US$ 430 000 was the highest amount of compensation per deceased passenger at the time.

That was surpassed by Air France about a year later, giving families US$ 1.1 million each.

I don't think there is any difference, it's just they way things happen. US air crash families have received less - however those accidents occurred on a different time scale.

So you could say why is there a difference between Asia and Europe, or Europe and North America and North America and Asia etc...
