Air Scandic To Replace A300s

Sat Oct 12, 2002 1:34 am

Hello,

According to Pprune and Jethros Fleet Listings, British airline Air Scandic will be disposing of its two A300Bs (GSWJW & GTTMC) this winter. It's expected that more B752s (in addition to the two currently leased from Finnair) will join the fleet by the summer as a replacement for the Airbuses.

Although I love widebodies, I'm glad to see the a/c go as I've read many, many, many (!!!) reports of long delays due to technical problems with SCY's A300s.

I hope that with this oppertunity they'll change the dreadfull livery!!!

Well I for one will be sad to see these unique aircraft go!

Air Scandic have the last 2 A300-200B4(FF) aircraft in operation. These aircraft are unique in having a Forward Facing Cockpit Crew (FFCC) Although they are the original A300B4 model with analogue flight instruments, they were built to be flown by only two pilots, unlike all other A300B4s which have Flight Engineer positions. This configuration was taken to the next stage with the A300-600R which featured a full glass-cockpit.

Only 11 of the A300B4-200FF model were built. 9 for Garuda which have been retired/scrapped - and the 2 ex-Kar Air/Finnair aircraft operated by Air Scandic.

Future problems with training the crews to fly the 2 remaining aircraft has lead to their retirement as the only simulator for the type, located in Helsinki, is being withdrawn from use.

Having flown MAN-TFS-MAN with Air Scandic in 1998 aboard G-SWJW I enjoyed the experience my one and only chance to fly on such a rare aircraft...
