DL 727 Mco-bdl?

Sat Oct 12, 2002 2:39 am

Does anyone know about this flight:

DL 9658 MCO-BDL, 727.

At first I thought it was just a substitution on the express routes, but it has been operating this route just about every day lately, and it has a 9XXX number, which is not a normal express flight number. Anyone have more information about whats going on?

Came in earlier IAD-MCO (forgot the flight number though). Some sort of charter (military? sports?).

DL is currently operating one daily IAD-MCO and one daily BDL-MCO using the 727. The flights will operate the entire month of October, then on Nov. 1 they will be replaced by the standard DLX 732's.

These flights are only temporary hence the 9XXX number. I think the reason DL is using 727's is because they are very short on 732 crews. The 732 is DL's most junior plane and with all the furloughs that DL has done they simply don't have enough crews to fly the 732. This is the same reason why routes like BOS-TPA and BOS-FLL have MD88's instead of 732's.

Cool, yeah I figured it was because of the furloughs, thx.

Probably explains the MD88 DLX flight last week (don't remember the route...but I read it on here)
