I know it sucks. I was really upset when we retired ours last November 1st. I should fly on one while I have the chance.

Yeah, this is really very sad as for last older B727 history and it will be gone as for forever by the now. I'm actually that I do was flew on the my last ride on B727-200 from CUN-MIA flight on AA. I do knew that about DL, NW soon will be gone as for the older B727 ever built as for early 2003. Now, who anyone did flew on the last ride on the B727-200 as for you guys of the last time. Well, goodnight!!

727 and L1011 are probably my fav trijets. Don't know why, but I feel safe when I fly on them. I was on the final AA 727 departure from MIA. Festivites were great for this old bird (I have the certificate framed, next to the DL L1011 certificate). I can always tell when a 727 is departing over my house...all the windows shake.  Smile

It REALLY sucks! My last 727 flight was in August (NW MCO-DTW), and it was awesome. I've always love their unique trijet configuration (with all three on the tail!) & the whistle of the engines, among other things. Hopefully, I'll wind up on another one before they're totally retired!

JBLUA320- "late late December" You'll be pretty close to NW's last flight with the 727- they're out of commercial service in January...  Sad

727-Thanks for the memories!

Yeah, I already miss United's 727's. My last flight on it was last May, ORD-LGA. Hopefully I'll be on a Northwest 727 soon!

I'll definetly miss the old birds. My last one was a USAIrways Shuttle flight from DCA-LGA back in 1998. I remember when I went down to Washington on the shuttle I was in row 26 and it was so loud I got a headache, I miss that a lot.

God,I love the 727. My last UA 727 was UA's N7458U ORD-ROC 9-5-01. I was lucky enough to be switch to a DL 727 in August , due to bad weather in IAD. I was on N519DL Delta 727 ROC-ATL-GSO (same plane) . I was seated in the second-last row-right by the JT8-D!
Every morning a DHL 727 roars over my house for ROC's r/w 22.Who needs an alarm clock with a 72 ?

I was going to try to get one last 727 flight this December, but it looks like Delta is replacing 727's out of SAT (to ATL) with 738's.It appears that the last service will be November 30.738's start December 1.

So that makes my last 727 flight 9/5/01 on American,ATL-DFW.

At the rate things are going, the only 727's left flying in the USA are the FedEx and UPS 727's. And even the FedEx planes may be gone by 2010, especially with the tougher regulations on noise and exhaust emissions from FAA and ICAO due by 2006.  Sad The UPS 727-100's may soldier on, thanks to the re-engining program using Rolls-Royce Tay engines.

Well the 727 left the european skies back in the early 90's and now we just have a few of them flying but you hardly see them at the major airports.

Btw: this is the only 727 I ever flew on. It was on ORD-PHX back in 1999:

Just a few minutes ago, I was hunting for flights on a 727. I would be flying from MCI-MSP on NW D9S, from MSP-MEM on NW 753, from MEM-MCO on NW 72S, and then from MEM-DTW on NW 72S and DTW-MCI on NW D95. Because there are two 727 flights, I am dying to do this. The unfortunate thing, cost: $340.00. But, I think it is worth it and I think you guys have helped me make up my mind.

I will miss the 727s in regular airline liveries, and flying in them from time to time. However, I don't think they are going away entirely for awhile. I saw a Transmeridian 727 with the Quiet27 package take off from MKE last week...I was absolutely amazed at how that sucker climbed! Just like an MD-80, and with another engine augmenting the thrust of the two JT8D-217s.

Hate to see the Three-Holer go. My last trip in one was on AA DFW-IAH 1/1/01. We were supposed to come back to IAH in a Fokker the night before, but DFW had closed due to ice and we ended up celebrating the new year on a cot in Terminal C. When we got to our gate the next morning I was thrilled to see a 72 (ex-BN) parked and ready.

My first and one and only flight on with the 727 was HAM-AMS on LH. It was one of these beauties.

This color scheme was just great, sad that this was the only plane who carried these colors and also sad that they are nearly gone in europe.

Well, providing all goes as planned, I believe my last 727 flights will take place on October 26 and 27. NW 727 from MEM to MCO on Saturday and NW 727 from MCO to DTW on Sunday. This will be a special (very quick) trip for me because I fly on the DC-9 (my second favorite aircraft; the 727 is first) between MCI and MEM and between DTW and MCI.

Luckily I got a chance to fly a 727 almost by accident. I was flying from Houston back to Tucson on American. We were supposed to be on a later flight to DFW on a Super 80. Got to the airport early and got lucky enough to score a 727.

I'd swear it is like the Buick of airplanes. It feels big and smooth. A nice cushy ride on the ground. A nice cushy ride in the air. Cannot beat it. Incidentially my first trip was on a 727 in 1991. A United 727-200, PHX-ORD.

I don't think we will be as disappointed when the last 737 is retired.

There are still smaller airlines keeping them going for now.
Pan Am will keep them going if PA keeps going itself
I think they will grace the skies of the USA for a while thanks to Allegro

I have flown them on Eastern, Kiwi International, and Northwest, as far as I can remember. Some of these are in my profile scrapbook.

My last flight set included a Northwest Airlines 727-200, TPA-DTW. Very nice flight. You can find my trip report in the appropriate forum.

It was a walk in the past, I have worked so many of these wonderful planes.
I have cleaned them, loaded them, flown on them, gazed at them as they taxied out. I miss them long before this thread was posted. In COS that is really all we ever got to work, next to the 737 but it sureisnt a 727.
long live the 727.

At DTW, the Dc-9's and 727's powerback using reverse thrust. I think you will like if you have not seen this already.

I too will miss the 727. I got to fly on one of the last flights of the specially designed island hopper Continental Micronesia 727-100 shortly before it was replaced by a 738 when I flew to Pohnpei on a mission trip in late 2000. What an incredible island. The islanders still call CO Micronesia "air Mike". I was there for only three weeks and when I left on the new 738.

I booked my 82 year old grandmother on a 727-200 on Delta from BUF to ATL a couple weeks ago. I asked her to get the reg since I couldn't meet her at the gate to get it myself. She asked the pilot for it for her grandson and he was amused at her efforts. Here is her ship, in very sharp livery I might add:

What are the routes which are still served by Northwest 727s now and in the next two months? I might squeeze in my personal NW727 farewell flight if I know.

My last 727 flight was not too long ago -- MDW-FLL (on TZ) in 2001...great flight! I do have a question however...If I flew MIA-CUN in '95, what aircraft would I have most likely been in? Thanks!

BA777-
NW will apparently pull them from commercial service in January, but they will go on for a while as charter jets.

DL will be next year- that's all I know about them.

From what I have seen, the 727's with Northwest go from DTW and MEM to both TPA and MCO. I am not exactly sure where else the planes go. I have experienced a powerback with an AA 727 and with NW DC-9's and it is fantastic.

Well for those of you who like the 727, I believe FedEx plans on keeping them for a little whilte longer. But then again they are going to "weed" them out as time passes.

Most of the time they are used for sweep flights for locations that don't quite fill up a 727. They are also good for recovery flights which we have seen quite a bit at our CLTR location in the past few months.

About the UAL 727 with the smoke coming from the engine. Is it normal to have smoke coming from that part of the engine? I mean, Isn't Smoke supposed to come from the tailpipe.

A pity that the era of the 727 is now nearing it's end in the USA as well. I still remember some years ago that you practially couldn't avoid flying on a 727 when flying Delta (at least all my DL flights were on 727's...).

Had the chance to be aboard the last Lufthansa 727 flight on October 4th, 1992. What a beautful bird! Would prefer the 727 over any 737/757 etc any time!!

Cheers,

Tom
