They're Selling The Old Swissair Stuff!

Mon Oct 14, 2002 3:26 am

Yesterday I read in the swiss newspaper "Blick" that they will sell the old Swissair stuff! A total of 6,400,000 pieces are for sale, 300 tons of nostalgia. The sale will start next thursday. 2,000,000 forks, knifes and spoons, 75,000 sleepingbags and pillows, ...
Heres the story (only in german):

http://www.blick.ch/PB2G/PB2GA/pb2ga.htm?snr=39082

Unfortunately they don't mention where exactly the Swissair stuff will be sold. Zurich? Bassersdorf? Does anybody know any details?

It's in Bassersdorf. They start at the 27th of October. I'm sure there will be a lot of people... I'll definitely go, but not at the first day.

All further information can be found at: http://www.hossliquidator.ch/default_sw.asp

You can buy the old Swissair stuff? Maybe they sell also Sabena or the other airlines that get destroyed by Swissair? Big grin

Thanks for that link, Airways, that's really great! I think you meant to write "They start at the 17th of October", at least this is what they write on the hossliquidator's website.

I think I'll go, too. But you're right not to go there on the first day, as there is only space for 200 people at the same time. And I'm sure that many Swiss want to buy Swissair stuff. So I'm thinking about going there on wednesday, 23rd October, to buy a Swissair ramper's jacket  Big thumbs up

Sabena332, of course I would prefer Sabena, too. But you can be sure there won't be any Sabena stuff. Btw, I already acquired some old Sabena cutlery.

Right, anyone interested in founding an airline? Anyway. How can an airline as small as Swissair have 100,000s of stock items and duty free stuff (f)lying around when they go bankrupt? Isn't that a bit too much?

Damn, I just read that the uniforms (incl. ramper's jackets) are still somewhere in Asia, inside ship's containers on their way back to Switzerland - they won't arrive before late October.

Fine, will go there in my holiday, eventually on coming Saturday, October 19'th. Anyone elese going there?

Can also pick someone up from the airport if there is demand!

I am curious about the items offered, a uniform would be great, or an outdoor jacket, or better the Chablis... Poor end for this beloved airline!

VASI, as I see in you profile you're coming from Stuttgart, too. Don't you think it would be fun to go shopping there together? The reason why I chose wednesday 23rd was only because I guess that you have to queue very long on a saturday, but if you don't mind about that, I can arrange a day off on next saturday. And: the money for fuel that we save when driving there together, we can spend in additional Swissair items Big grin What do you think?

Ndebele, that would be really nice! I can also arrange Wednesday, 23'rd, will be not problem at all! Also Monday and Tuesday would be possible, just have to check when I have to go to Munich! Don't care about the fuel!
My only fear was, that the best items are already gone by the middle of the week.

As I know you work at the airport in STR, will go CPH eventaully on Thursday. Are you at the cehck in counter then?

How do get in contact???

Best!

Excellent! Most of the time I'm working in the office, where nobody cares if I take a day off. My only check-in days this month are monday 21st and tuesday 22nd October, these are the only shifts that I can't change. So any day is fine for me, except these two days.

At least on the liquidator's website they say that there are enough items, they don't expect to be sold-out so early. And, some items have still not arrived in Bassersdorf yet. Saturday will probably be the busiest day. But as already mentioned, nearly any day is fine for me.

You can find my eMail address in my profile. As for next thursday, tell me what flight you'll be taking, and I'll try to come to the gate.

Ndebele, sure you're right. It's not the 27th. I mixed up two dates. I plan to go there early next Friday, but sure it will be very crowded there. I'll see, it also depends on my working schedule.

Ndebele- I will contact you today via e-mail. It is unsure whether I will fly to CPH, will know tomorrow for sure. Are you already at the airport at 07:15 am, as the plane is leaving at 07:50 am. Will come back with the SK 667 at roughly 09:30 pm the same day.

I think overnext Wednesday is the best occassion then. Will come back to you!

Best regards!

Sabena needed no help from anyone, let alone SR, to fly themselves into the ground. They didn't make a profit since 1955. And you think it was all Swissair's fault? Get REAL.

So today the sale started. Has anybody been there already? I'll probably be there on saturday (despite expecting a long queue especially on saturdays).

Two a.net members asked me to buy some jackets/souvenirs for them. Their problem: We really don't know what prices to expect - cheap because Swissair is bankrupt and they need the money? Or rather expensive, because it's a souvenir, and maybe some Swiss people are willing to pay much money for a piece of good old Swissair. Who has a clue, how much do you have to pay for e.g. a ramp jacket? What do you think?

ndebele, i wasn't there , but i saw on tv the people standing in line. the
first one to arrive there was at 4a.m., they only allow approx. 50 customers
into the hall at once. items are high priced!!! they said that sr always went for the best and that they want to make money out off it. rape jackets or overalls go for sfr. 400.-. all the silverware (first-class) go for sfr. 10.- a piece. i first planned to go. even my mom, not very interessed in the airline
stuff also wanted to go. but after what we saw on tv we decided not to go.
beside i have lots of silverware and sr glasses already. anybody interessted
in sr items go to www.ebay.ch and then under sammeln&seltenes then
luftfahrt&zeppelin or transport and there you will also find interessting sr
things to collect.

Thanks for that interesting information, DALelite! Damn, I really wanted to buy I ramper's jacket (is rape jacket really the appropriate word?), but 400sfr? I'm not sure if my part-time job salery allows expenses like this  Sad Well but I'm sure I'll find a nice souvenir, maybe something cheaper.

Sent Mrs Standby on the 1st day - Queues were 3 hours long. Horrendous.
She was not happy. Guess who had to do all the housework after that?

She only bought 5 x Swissair wine glasses for 1 CHF, some small bottles of wine and some table tissues. The rest she thought was overpriced tat eg. non-slip plates that stop the food coming off (useful only if you live in Manchester or other earthquake zones) for 10 bloody Francs and weren't even Swissair branded. Other Brits have also been and thought the prices were too high. Maybe we're just mean (or poor), but the Swiss locals have been lapping it up loading up cars and spending hundreds of Francs.

My boss went the other night, no queue at 1630hrs and we got rewarded with a mega box of the Swissair chocolates the next day to share out. Gosh, I miss them chocolates...

Goodnight and set your watches back.

Anyway I can access the liquidation from the Internet? I wouldn't mind picking up a bunch of safety cards for 1 CHF each (its less than $14 USD for 20 safeties...)
