How Are Easyjets New Airbuses Going To Save Money?

Wed Oct 16, 2002 6:23 am

How is this possible? They may have been cheaper to buy but surely introducing a new type to a one type airline is going to be very expensive?! Cost would include flight crew re-training, new service facilities, new simulators etc?

p.s. Is Boeing dying a painful death? Surely a few new types of aircraft wouldn't hurt them?

How is this possible
Airbus,as I understand, have agreed to cover the costs arising from the problems you list.

Donder10 is correct. I think all training costs will be picked up by Airbus and importantly any resulting costs from operating a mixed fleet. Airbus made an (obviously) unbeatable offer. EasyJet got a great price and is insulated from the risks of a mixed fleet. I think the real question is how is Airbus going to earn money from this deal.

Just wondering if anyone can confirm the number in the order... I think I heard 120 on MarketWatch yesterday... anyone confirm? Also, what is the current EasyJet fleet size? In my mind, it seems like this is over 2x their current fleet... its a really big purchase - assuming 120 is the actual number.

Will they continue their 737 operations?

Its prob between 2-3 times the size of their current fleet.

It is a 120 firm orders. It is a huge win for Airbus in market share terms.

I think that I heard that the present EasyJet fleet counts 64 planes.
