Questions Regarding Lufthansa's B 747s

Fri Oct 25, 2002 11:19 pm

Hey folks!

A number of Lufthansa's B 747-200s are back in service. However, how many of them? 2-4 from what I heard?????

Also, they planned to order 4 additional B 747-400s before 9.11. Where did that go? Will they place their order anytime soon? If yes, when?

And according to Flight International, they are interested in the B 747-400QLR.

Awaiting your reply.

The two B747-200 back in service are:

D-ABZE
D-ABYX

Some more are still stored.

I don't know about a possible B747-400 order, of any type, but we will see..

I´m not 100%sure, but from what I know LH has 4 744s on option still. I guess, there´s a chance that this will be changed to freighters, maybe ERs or...

Thought they were about to order 4 B 747-400s. Perhaps they will convert them into ERs or QLRs?

Personally, I'd be very surprised to see LH order more 744s; they have A346s on order and there is no route currently operated that would require the -ER's extra range. However, a 744F order would not surprise me.

Incidentally, does LH still operate its 747-400 Combis in a combi configuration, or is the SCD sealed and the aircraft used as all-pax (as I believe is the case, since the timetable doesn't show any acft in a combi configuration).

The SCD has been sealed for about three years now.

Kaitak,

The Combis are all gone (Correct me if I am wrong). The A 340-600s are ordered to replace the B 742s, not the B 744s. They had serious plans to order 4 additional B 744s along with the A 380 before 9.11

The A380 was ordered 15 airframes! Don't no if the 744 order has been placed yet or if it will.

Newbie question: what does SCD stand for? Side Cargo Door? is it still there or has it been removed?
