A few weeks ago we had hurricanes and tropical storms, tonight we've got very severe weather in New Orleans and around MSY, complete with tornadoes. I counted five tornado warnings in the past 2 hours, including one spotted by a helicopter pilot about 6 miles southwest of MSY.
I made it home from the airport just before it began and I've been checking the local TV stations (constantly cutting in with updates), and keeping my scanner on the MSY tower frequency. The helicopter pilot's conversation with the tower was incredible to say the least, especially when he spotted the tornado.
Numerous air carrier traffic either diverted (one to PNS that I recall) or went into holds in the air or on the ground. I heard a number of flights go missed approach.
Those of you in the southeast, especially along the Gulf Coast, you all may be getting it soon.
