Scandinavian Or Virgin? (LHR-EWR)

Sun Nov 03, 2002 1:12 am

I am flying over to America in January and it would be really helpful if any of you guys can provide me information regarding these two airlines. I still can't decide which airline I am going to fly with since both of them offer me the same price and they are very good European carriers. For Virgin, I will be flying with the A340-600 (on VS 001) and for Scandinavian, I will be flying the A330 (on SK 909). Both aircraft are very new I guess, maybe less than 6 months, so it doesn't really matter which one I will be flying on.

I had flown with Scandinavian before and in my opinion, they are the best carrier in Europe, albeit I had not flown with Virgin before. I will be flying in Economy Class, and I am pretty sure both airlines have PTVs in their Economy Class, but is there any difference in their IFEs? Scandinavian offer a better arrival time into Newark, but with Virgin I have the opportunity to fly in the A346 and I had only flown on a A343 once!

If any of you guys out there had flown with either Virgin or Scandinavian, I would really appreciate if you could give me your opinions on either airline and the aircraft. Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards.

How tall are you and what is your destination in the US?

VS has very VERY tight seat pitch. SK is more generous.

If you are flying to the west coast, I would suggest NZ over the other two.

Otherwise, I would suggest BD.

I've never flown Scandanavian, but I've had four flights on Virgin. As it's been mentioned their 31" seat pitch isn't great, but the service is very good. The v:port IFE system which Virgin have on the A346 (plus 2 B744s) is, in my opinion, the best in the world. The screens are 9" (bigger than any other airline's Y class screens) and there is a video/music on demand system. There are about 40 films, 50 TV programs and 20 albums available. You can choose to start one at any time, and pause/fastforward/rewind functions are available. There are also about 10 computer games and a Skymap available.

I've flown VS, and found, as mentioned above, that their seat pitch is terrible, and I actually wasn't all that thrilled with their PTV system either. I'd go with SAS personally. Just my $0.02.

I have never been on a Virgin flight, but I think SAS offers a very good and reliable service. Relaxed athmosphere with nice and professional cabin crew!

Haven't flown on VS but I would go for SK. Two more flights for the same price!
What about that?  Smile

Haven't flown on any Virgin flight, but have heard their service is very good.
The SK A330's are around 1 month old by now. They are configured just like the A340's,which in my opinion is the most comfortable plane in the SK fleet as of now.
