That does not know what he's talking about, he obviously does not fly out of EWR,JFK or LGA too often.

I agree. Especially EWR. Terminal C was named one of the best terminals recently by JDPowers (or some other similar organization) due to its selection and quality of amenities/concessions. This guy used to write a column for ABCNews.com called "The Crabby Traveler." It seemed really contrived - just rehashed all the little things that people have bitched about for years and made them seem new and a bigger deal than they really are. This article seems similar to the previous series - somehow he's managed to really get a lot of play out of his "I'm an aviation expert" stint. His list here is totally subjective.

I was just about to post this article! I didn't like it much. All he seemed to do was complain. The fact is that most airports have long lines for security and that the food isn't very good. McDonalds isn't gourmet, but it's not terrible either. It is all really just his opinion I think. MIA is sort of confusing I think, but it's not this horrible claustrophobic prison like he makes it out to be. The terminal areas are sort of nice I think.

The author nailed MIA...thats why FLL (& even PBI) is pretty much a no brainer alternative if you're heading to one of the reasonably large big 5 carrier domestic hubs.

The author left out ANC.....Ted Stevens International in high tourist season in July was a nightmare...overflowing toliets, an hour to get through security and no seating in the departure/arrival area. Salvation in the form of the rising new terminal next door can't come fast enough.

DTW's old Terminal A is pretty much the pits, too.

I guess that explains why Southwest won't fly into 4 out of 5 of those places (or should I say 6/7?). Maybe it also helps to explain why they make a profit?

Hey-

The author is off topic at times. He rates the worst and best five airports for LAYOVERS. Then he goes into talking about car traffic to get there. If you're on a layover, you don;t give a damn about traffic driving there, you only care about the terminal.

He certainly should have mentioned Northwest's old Detroit terminal.

I have to agree about JFK. At least the old TWA terminals (5 & 6). These were horrible right to the very end.

I definately think that MSP should have made the list somewhere, while I'm not a fan of the airline that flies there, Minneapolis/St. Paul has never been a problem when it comes to layovers/connections for me.

I won't say the NY airports are great but - "No 1 to avoid" ? Quite ridiculous and irrelevant... Was the guy ever told these were airports, not ***** hotels?

I do think they should make a tranportation system in MIA to get from the different concources so you dont have to go though security again. But i live in Miami so will never have to do a connection there. Also what he said about the traffic. That is not the airports falt that is what happens when you have 3.3 milion people living within 70 mi of each other. MIA is not that bad at all. FLL is much better but not even close to as many flights or airlines.

I agree with you guys disliking the commentator. This recent article sounds like it was written by an amateur travel reporter. He is constantly advertising himself and his website...

Notice how all of these airports were among the busiest in the nation? What does he expect, everything laid out like ATL or DEN?

OzarkD9S,

Well, that should be pretty obvious. Usually as an airport gets busier, the more problems arise such as delays, congestion, long security lines, etc.

Sorry, but Savannah (SAV) won't be on that list. It just doesn't have the traffic to suffer from the REAL problems that the busy airports have.

MIA is a real dump.

After going through MCO and TPA, I had this impression that Florida has nice modern airports. I was excited when I was on my way to MIA to see how it is, and was completely disappointed. Nothing what I expected. A complete dump.

I have to say, I completely agree with the author. It's an excelent article.

I don't think EWR is that bad! I actually find it pretty easy to use. Sorry, nothing compares to the use of MSP! Voted #1 many times!

I am hurt by this blatant lack of research. I think what he said about JFK is terrible, I know the Van Wyck and Belt are horrible roads but that can't be held against the airport itself. LGA is not that bad with delays. I had 7 flights in and out of there this year with all ontime or early departures/arrivals. What really got to me was what he said about SJC. I was very impressed by that place.
