Air New Zealand - First Class

Wed Nov 06, 2002 9:57 am

I am flying Air New Zealand from LAX - SYD in First Class. Can anyone tell me what their seats/service are like? Do they have fully reclining seats like other airlines? When I called for the reservation they said seating in First was 2-3-2 on a 747-400. This seems strange for First, more like Business Class.

Thanks

Tony - I have not actually flown in First on NZ, but I had a good look around at the First cabin, when I got shown around the jetbase at AKL last year. The cabin seats 12, and it is 2-2 configuration (2-3-2 is Business Class - perhaps you should check and make sure you have been seated in First, and someone hasn't made a stuff up). Seats recline to pretty much fully flat. I thought they were very comfortable, though I only sat in them for a few minutes. I have found J class service on NZ to be excellent, so I am guessing F class will be equally so. Take a look at http://www.airnz.co.nz/nz/ontheplane/first_class.htm for more information.

I hope you enjoy your flight on Air New Zealand, and your stay in Sydney!

Seats recline to almost flat. It's indiscernable beacuse of the pitch angle of the a/c so inflight is really is flat.

It's a huge cabin with only 12 seats - contrast with some airlines with centre F seats.

Service is excellent and very attentive. NZ needs a revamp to suites to compete on some routes, as this product has been out for about six years I think.

If I had a choice between the UA suits and NZ first I'd be on NZ for the service.

Rpwgw - Air New Zealand will be revising their long haul service in the coming years. Rumour has it that First class will be dropped, and an improved business class offering flat seats will be offered.

Does NZ have PJ's in F now?

I flew a couple of year ago LAX-AKL/SYD-LAX in F. Wonderful, wonderful flight!
