United 767 Emergency Landing At Yyz?

Thu Nov 07, 2002 3:18 pm

Anyone have any info on the United 767 that made an emergency landing this afternoon at 16:20 (Nov 6th). I was fueling a push tug right beside runway 33R/15L when I noticed the emergency vehicles lined up at both ends of the runway. 33R was not active but then out of the clouds popped a United 767, sweet crosswind landing. Emergency vehicles followed it as it turned south onto Bravo and headed towards Terminal 2 when I lost sight of it. I got a nice long view as the darn tug took 250 liters of diesel. Later that evening it was towed to the infield area and was still sitting there when I left at 0030 tonight.
Rumor has it another 767 came in and left (I guess to pick up the passengers) but I failed to see any sign of it. Surprisingly I see few emergency landings every month and no info is ever posted about them. For example Jetsgo made one a few weeks ago. Although to see a united 767 is quite rare and therefore I figured someone would know something about it.

The flight was UA 949 en route LHR-ORD, although I don't know what caused the emergency landing. Anyone?

NO idea....but i think a united 319 is in the infield getting an engine changed tonight......

Can't aircraft land do to medical emergencies.....i think thats the most common really....I was spotting when AF 777 landed with the bomb threat....I have seen aeroflot have a landing gear light not come on and have to do a low approach so ATC could see if the gear was down....it landed fine....

Hey would that explain the fire truck moving around the airport at that time.....i was there at 16:30.....darn i missed it...

I would guess mechanical rather than medical emergency, since the trucks were out and chasing. It would be a rare case that a medical emergency would require chase trucks, unless perhaps it was both pilots!

both engines flamed-out... the RAT was deployed and they were able to restart one of the engines...
