Delta/El Al To Fly Toronto-Los Angeles

Fri Nov 08, 2002 1:42 pm

Thought this was interesting:

Delta has received approval to codeshare with El Al on El Al's service between Toronto and Los Angeles. Delta will add its code to El Al flights beginning December 1st.

That's odd. I see no benefit to DL for doing this. Well, no loss either I guess.

Perhaps it's to partially cover for the LAX-origin DL passengers who used to fly to TLV via JFK before DL axed TLV.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Will Delta have full rights to sell this service as a standalone? Or will it require an online connection?

Delta's code will be added only to the Los Angeles-Toronto vice-versa service. Delta will be selling seats under its own name on this portion. They will not be codesharing between Toronto and Tel Aviv.

I guess this means we now, technically, have four carriers flying Toronto - Los Angeles: Air Canada, American, El Al, Delta.

Correct. UA also codeshares on at least 1 daily YYZ-LAX.
