AA: New Seats (MRTC) Versus Old Seats

I just returned from a trip to Florida on American Airlines:

JFK Miami 767-200
Miami Orlando 757
Orlando JFK 757

and noticed that both 757s were in the "old" configuration, in both first and coach. I thought they claimed the entire fleet had been retrofitted? Or is it just the added legroom that is now fleet-wide.

The 757s are beginning to look really old; seats were dirty, panels were gray with dirt. In comparison, the 767 with the new interior looked clean, bright, and comfortable.

AA's entire fleet is configured with MRTC but the 757's and A300's don't have the new seats. An American FA told she was on a brand new 738 and it to didn't have the new seats, possibly a cost issue. I agree about the condition, I flew an AA 757 PHX-DFW and it looked like it was an original. Old tube TV's, old seats and worn carpet, but it did have MRTC.

Regarding that, I was on an AA Fokker 100 this summer and it did not appear to be retrofitted with MRTC, there was no signs or anything like on the MD-80s to indicate that plus the interior was very worn this cause they are on the way out?

Once again.....MRTC and the new interiors are seperate issues. MRTC has been done for long time now. The interiors were redone at a different time. The MD-80, 738, 767, and 777 all have the new interiors. The A300's, 757's, and F-100's too not. Plain and simple....a cost saving item. Apparently a few F-100's received the new interiors but that will no longer happen as they are leaving the fleet between 2003-2005. The former TWA aircraft are another issue.

I agree, the oldest 757's are looking rather worn these days....well compared to the brand new 738's, and the new interiors sure spruced up the workhorse MD-80's. There are about 25 brand new 757's, but they have the old-style seats.

Does anybody know if the ex-TWA birds will be receiving new interiors (esp the MD-80s) anytime soon?
