Help On SFO-HNL Please

Sun Nov 10, 2002 7:13 am

A trip in the pipeline for me and family is LON-SFO-HNL and being from the UK I am not too hot on knowing who flies where in the US.

I am pretty sure Hawiian do SFO-HNL-SFO am I right?

Apart from this are there any other airlines which fly direct SFO-HNL?

And if so, any info on a/c used would be nice too

Many thanks in advance

LGW

UAL flies LHR - SFO - HNL
Option is LHR - LAX - HNL
or LHR - ORD - HNL...
Not that I recommend UAL -
but they just go everywhere USA... and much of the world...

Come fly with us (Hawaiian) in one of our brand new 767-300's SFO-HNL. You'll love the service.  Smile

I recently visited London from HNL. I flew AA HNL-ORD-LHR-ORD-SFO-HNL... Very good. If i were you, try fly AA, because they have MRTC, very noticable. Additionally, AA's "Flagship International Lunch/Dinner" is much bigger than domestic ones, and much better than UA (meals aren't very differentf rom domestic). If you are flying AA in Biz or First, they are way ahead of UA... You have the following options to get to HNL...(on AA)

LHR-ORD-HNL (if you take the noon flight or later, a night stay is required)
LHR-ORD-LAX/SFO-HNL (if you take noon flight or later, stay in LAX or SFO)
LHR-JFK-LAX/SFO-HNL
LHR-DFW-HNL
LHR-DFW-SFO/LAX-HNL
LHR-LAX-HNL
LHR-LAX-OGG-HNL
LGW-STL-HNL
LGW-STL-OGG-HNL

Hope this helps...
Fly AA!

I would take Hawaiian... look at the cabin shots of their new 763s that just got added to the database.

I flew AA from Dallas to Honolulu myself this summer, and was not wonderfully impressed. It was nothing speical at all. The 767 was dirty. The food was... below average, even for airline food. The leg room, however, is American's trump card.

That's my take.

I would fly HA from SFO-HNL nonstop. I had a very pleasant experience with that carrier and I thought they did an excellent job of serving the passengers and getting us in on-time.

I would fly on Continental, you can book your Virgin leg through Continental also. At the moment, I believe Continental has the best service to HNL especially if you are up front.

I would also recommend Continental

However we no longer fly SFO-HNL so you'd have to hop down to LAX to ride on us, sure we'd give you a deal though!

The big 3: UA,DL,AA, all fly from SFO to HNL. They mainly use 757s, or 767s.
Aloha flies from OAK, and are probably the best value from the Bay Area. They reportedly have excellent service, and are not that highly priced. Unfortunately it would require your to do an airport to airport transfer, which isn't that easily done. BTW, they fly 73NG, and it would be possible to make the connection after arriving in SFO. The airport to airport transfer is going to be made a lot easier when BART finally goes through, but that's not going to happen in the immediate future (it looks nearly ready).

If your heart is set on going through SFO, your best bet is flying UA for your trip. It will be easier, and probably cheaper for you. Hawaiian is going to give you better service, and they fly either 767er, or DC10.
The Virgin/Continental service through LAX seems the best choice, but I won't blame you for avoiding LA if you choose. (LA should be avoided at all cost, as it is LA).

Brand new Boeing 757-300s to HNL from SFO and back! Service operates every day except for Wednesday.

Pleasant Holidays (www.pleasantholidays.com) also uses seats on our Hawaii flights from LAX and SFO.

Please let us know how your flights are...

Is your objective just to get to HNL, or to stop in SFO?

If it's just to get to HNL, you can also consider routings like LGW-EWR-HNL on CO, for example.

That said, MRTC is very important to me -- I hate 31" pitch. So I'd fly AA unless the cost was significantly higher.

1st choice...Hawaiian B-763. New airplane, excellent service that makes you feel like you're in the islands the moment you board and one of the most handsome interiors around.

Other choices. Delta which flies new B-764's HNL/SFO. United which flies 777's, 763's and 752's HNL/SFO. American which flies 752's and 763's and has the most room in coach of anyone. ATA which flies new 753's on the route. Aloha flies from Oakland (impossible connection) using B-737-700's. Aloha's inflight service is second only to Hawaiian, but the aircraft is much too small for a five hour flight.

If you're flying Virgin Atlantic into SFO I believe they have joint fares with Hawaiian.

If you go from London to LAX on BA, don't go on UAL because they then use a 752 to HNL which I found quite uncomfortable. LAX is hell aswell. For cheaper fares go with Delta, but I'd say Hawaiian is one of the best options, especially from SFO.

Tom, I got your mail - huge thanks to you for that.

To all of you, many thanks for all your help. I am glad I posted here because I had an idea of who flew the route but was quite wrong!!

Well, 777 or not, sorry but after having flown UA in the past they are not an option for me, I was very unimpressed by them.

I think I will fly VS LHR-SFO and either Hawiian or ATA SFO-HNL (not sure which both sound good)

So again, many thanks for all your help/time on this matter

-Friendly reminder; Be sure to keep an eye on the sercurity guards, (if you plan to do some photography) they tend to be a bit harsh!

Other than that, hope you have an outstanding journey!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

If you plan on doing photography, Lagoon Drive is the best (but also watch out for the guards)! Who knows, we may bump into each other there!  Big grin The terminal is for ticketed passengers though.
