How To Tell The Difference Bewtween A340-300 & 500

Wed Nov 13, 2002 5:56 am

I can tell the difference between 200 & 300, and obviously the 600 is reeeaaaaalllly long, but what about the 500? From the pics I've seen, it longer real similar to the 300. Which is longer? Any advice?

The easiest way to tell is that the -500 has some respectably large Trent engines and -300 has the smaller CFM56 engines hanging. I'm not quite sure but I believe the -500 is a couple of frames longer than the -300.

- The A345 is about 4 meters longer than the A343.
- The A345 engines are much larger than the A343 as N79969 mentioned.
- The A345 has a Bogey center-main-landing-gear.

These are the only exterior differences which I am aware of.

Hi,
the engines will be the main give away. You can spot whether its a 340-200/300 or 500/600 on approach from about 5 miles out just because of the engines!
