Unknown 747 At LHR

Sun Nov 17, 2002 12:06 am

This morning, (a very foggy one), while seeing the BA001 do a 09L departure, I spotted a 747-100/200 over at the BMI/Virgin hangars.
Next to the road was a SAA 747, then a CX one, a Qantas with one of their special colour schemes, then the AFX 747-200F (does that thing ever fly?), then a classic 747 with a light-blue top, dark blue/black cheatline, no titles.
Any idea who does, or did own this aircraft?

Also, anyone see the VIP 757 over the BA base last week, I didn't get a good view of it but I'd guess it's a Mexican A.F. one, or another Latin American country.

Hi,
the 757 was XC-UJM, the Mexican presidential plane.Came from Newark and went to Dublin.
The 747 is N285SW.Another AFX machine I think(leased?) which seems to be perpetually taxied over the airfield.

Talk of this aircraft has been floating around on the PPRuNe freight dogs forum for about a week now. It's an ex-Korean bird apparently now owned by Air Atlanta Icelandic. Supposedly it is to join that AFX 742 and start flying soon. Then again, my information could be all totally wrong.

Mexican Air Force 757 XC-UJM (TP-01) was at LHR last week. The 747 may possibly be N285SW (c/n) 22485 which arrived on the 13th; don't know the colourscheme though.

Reckon this evening/tomorrow morning should be a bit foggy Midlands southwards looking at the TAFs for LHR, LGW, STN (down to 100m already!), LTN (200m), BHX & EMA.

I presume that BA002 is kept abreast of these things (I note that it's due at 18.50) and may be planning an excursion to BZZ.

Spacepope, now you mention it, the livery on the 747 did look like a title-less Korean bird.
