Airline/Airport Abbreviations

Tue Nov 02, 1999 11:32 am

Does anyone know of a place (web site, book, etc.) with airline and airport codes/abbreviations? I'm not an airline professional, just an enthusiast, and often don't know which airline or airport is being referred to in these forums.

I guess I'm really showing my ignorance, but I'm trying to learn! Perhaps those that read this could just reply with your favorite airlines and airports in your area? Just an idea... 8)

Thanks to everyone for contributing -- this is a great site!

For airport abbreviations and links to airport sites, surf on over to
http://www.travel.com/aviation/avap.htm

there is a substantial list there, what you can do also is send an email to an airline requesting a hard copy of tehre timetable, this is free and they should have it out to you in about a week, in there they list many airlines and codes plus airports and codes!

Chris,

Check at your local library for a copy of the "Offical Airline Guide" they have a list of all the airport codes worldwide. If not, check at a travel agency and see if they might not let you have old copy of the book. It comes out monthly. Also, if you want I could send you the toll free number to them. Let me know.

A site I like to use to decode airport codes is http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~un9v/atm/ase.html.

For airline codes (2 letter, 3 letter, and callsign), I know of two good sites - the first one is my own: http://www.geocities.com/hawaiian717/airinfo.html and http://www.decollage.org/airliners/ang/iical.htm.
