How Important Is LHR Air Service?

Tue Nov 19, 2002 10:16 am

I'm curious to know is there a very strong market for an airline's new product at LHR?

When airlines introduce a new product such as New First Class and Business Class, they always try to put the aircraft fitted with these new products on flights to LHR immediately. As far as I know, airlines like Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, and ANA are doing that.

Does anyone know the reason behind this decision?

Routes to London Heathrow are probably the most prestiges ones that international airlines fly. One reason must be because of the limited capacity that LHR has and on the other hand the large demand causing airlines to fight to increase their share at LHR. All Airlines that have ordered the A380 (except for FedEx, LH and AF) will bring them to LHR first for probably the same reason.

Godbless said it all, mostly about prestige, doesn't get more prestigious than LHR. But also when an airline introduces a new product (i.e. new biz class seats) they usually will put the test flights on a high yield, busy business route like LHR where are likely to be more pax than most other routes. Maybe there are other reasons aswell.
