Austrian To Fly To Both Canadian Cities Daily

Wed Nov 20, 2002 1:57 am

According to a discussion from an OS Montreal rep with one source, Austrian airlines is very pleased with their business in Montreal and Toronto.

As you may or may not know, Austrian is to go 5 weekly from YYZ (from 3), and 4 weekly from YUL (from 3). Load factors for over 90% for both cities.

The issue is that Austrian has had a tough time with the business loads, given their 3 weekly frequency which may not appeal to the flexible business passenger. The rep went as far to say that Austrian in Montreal for example, is continuously losing business pax to AC 874/LH9074 YUL-FRA. Austrian thus intends in summer 2004, to upgrade Montreal/Toronto to a minimum of 6 weekly, but likely daily!!

(Why fly 6 weekly, just add the extra frequency!!)

Good news for YUL/YYZ.. nice bird that "Sexy" (in the words of captaingomes) Austrian A330-200/A340-200..

Thanks for the update Mark.

I wonder if the fares are competitive with AC. Anyone know?

What's another word for thesaurus?

I'm not surprised at all with the high load factors for YUl/YYZ. Good news for
Austrian!

On another note, I for one would love to know if/when Swiss International
will resume ("resume", in reference to the former SR) service from ZRH to
YYZ? Hopefully when T1-New is completed? Anyone know? I flew to
ZRH on LX a couple of weeks back from YUL, and would very much enjoy the convenience of boarding LX in YYZ. Wishful thinking?

You are assuming that Swiss will still be around when T1New opens  Smile

I dont think SWISS is a position to start many other long-haul routes. They seem to do well in Montreal..

Austrian is just as good or better than Swiss is. But Swissair is a TOTALLY different thing if you know what I mean Big grin

Great news without a doubt, but I think daily flights is a littel optimistic, I see that in a few years, but not in the near immidiate future.

Cedarjet,

Facts and stats, not assumptions based on limited knowledge of how airlines work and make money. I don't have future visions of airlines, I don't like to predict things with airlines, as situations can change on a whim.

It's always good to get people's opinions, that's the nature of a discussion board in most cases. Noise might not have any financial or other statistics to back up his opinions, but based on what he's seen, heard and read, maybe he feels that way.

For the sake of argument Jeremy, you should have said "yes Austrian IS ready for daily flights right NOW." Now that would have turned into a really good discussion to watch.  Big grin

Ok Noise, we're waiting for your rebuttal. You can be Mini-FLYYUL, and C-GRYK can be Mini-Yyz717.
