Re:- How Are Aeroflot?

Wed Nov 20, 2002 4:06 pm

Hi there!

I may be flying on Aeroflot (SIN-LHR) in the not too distant future (nice to be different!) and would enjoy reading any comments you may have.

There's not too much difference in the pirce between Economy, Business and First - so I could go for any - will decide shortly!

Look forward to reading your thoughts!

All the best,

Paul.

It is pretty much a "normal" airline, in any aircraft configuration. It is true that you can upgrade for a very small price on some flights (from Moscow to Beijing they wanted $90 to upgrade to first), which is nice. Service can be surly, perhaps a bit more so than on some airlines, but not really more usual than on others. Most expats in Russia are more than happy to fly Aeroflot. Their safety record, some egregious examples aside, is perfectly respectable. However, (this doesn't apply to you), domestically, always make sure you are flying the real Aeroflot Russian International Airlines (ARIA), and not some small company that has simply not removed the Aeroflot titles from the plane or company logo. My friend just came in from LHR on Aeroflot and thought the service and seats were perfectly fine (in coach). Have fun and write a trip report!

Afay, I would have no problem in flying Transaero, Siberia Airlines, KrasAir, Orenburg Airlines, or other such domestic airlines. They all provide the same level of on board service. Also, Aeroflot was renamed to Aeroflot Russian Airlines over 12 months ago. No such thing as ARIA anymore  Wink/being sarcastic

The biggest problem which Aeroflot will have to address in the future, is the lack of IFE on their aircraft. Personally, I could care less about such features, but other travellers decide which airline they will fly based solely upon what IFE is available.

Airsnaps, if there isn't much difference between Y, C, F class fare and you are happy to pay a bit extra, go with the F class.

Hi!

Thanks alot for your comments so far...

PTV's would be nice, especially if I go for First Class - do they have them?

I believe it's the IL-96 out of SIN and then the A310 from Moscow across to LHR at this time of year. I'm completely unsure what to expect.

Hope to read more and thanks again!

Regards,

Paul.

Airsnaps.....for information on Aeroflot's onboard service (in English) visit:

http://www.aeroflot.ru/eng/classify.asp?c_no=428

No PTVs yet unfortunately.

In regards of what to expect, don't book on SU thinking you are going to EK or SQ levels of service, because it just isn't going to happen (not yet anyway). But you do get good value for money.

When flying first-class SU often give away to first-class passengers small gifts.

Also, be sure to register for the Aeroflot Bonus program.

http://www.aeroflotbonus.ru/eng/

F-class pax get 300% of actual miles flown. So SIN-LHR will earn you over 30,000 points (double that if flying return). 30,000 points is enough for a return economy SVO-LHR

Aviatsyia,

Great - thanks alot for link!

The only site I had looked at previously was www.aeroflot.com which looks as though it's still under construction in parts.

It's decision time soon!

Paul.
