Star Alliance New Livery

Fri Nov 22, 2002 5:22 pm

Star Alliance has unveiled a new corporate livery for its member airlines which will be carried by at least one aircraft in each Star carrier’s fleet.
Asiana will be the first to introduce the new livery in March 2003.
Aircraft will have ‘STAR ALLIANCE’ in large plain script running along most of the fuselage while the corporate branding of the individual carrier will be painted underneath this main title, on the forward fuselage.
The vertical fin will be painted black and carry the Star logo.

So the logos from all airlines will disappear, and the simple black-and-white design is not really exciting... The didn't have the courage to go for an all-black plane, as had been considered.

Don't think Singapore Airlines will paint an aircraft though, due to some superstition(they did not paint any a/c in special livery after SQ006). Would be nice to see it on a 772ER or a 744!

Konstantin, will the Asiana one be on a 767, 777 or 747?

I have seen the new livery in the Star Alliance web site.
It's just an artist impression but it's very ugly.
No fantasy has been used to create it.

I also just had a look at the new livery and it isn't really anything special and I do prefer the current livery with the logos on the fuselage which adds some color to the planes. Best will probably be to just wait and see how the actual plane will look like as there are many chances of them maybe doing the one or other change yet before Asiana introduces it.

Interesting to say the least? Now there was a story on here about the QF/BA aircraft 747-400 that had the tail of BA world images and yet was leased to QF and supposedly the LAX authorities wanted it changed or removed as they could tell whether it was QF or BA? How true this is I do not know but imagine what would happen at LAX if all the Star Alliance aircraft arrived painted in this one pattern...........LA tower trouble???

Defintely a yawner in my book. To me, it doesn't really tell you anything about the Star Alliance, unlike the current Star scheme.

You'd think they'd almost be better off just getting a significantly sized Star Alliance logo on each aircraft instead of this.

I do like the star tail, though  Smile

Even SQ won't get around it this time, that's the agreement.
I have no detail on which Asiana type it will be.

Are they going to paint half of the right engine cowling black and half of the left one dark grey? What if you have 4 engines? Very odd.

As much as Star Alliance knows that the logo livery was well liked, it just is not practical anymore, with new members joining and others leaving.

How good dose that Varig 747 look never seen it before. The new one sucks It would be cool if they got all the airlines to change the coulor of there liver aircraft and titals to star but keep there idividual desingns say bmi could have black where white is and grey where blue is and star where bmi is that look kool.

Well, it's bold, gets to the point and is quite bland.

A more representative livery would be nice.

However, at least SIA is forced to put the special livery on a plane now.

They did it again with the wet leaser look.  Yeah sure

Why can't anyone come up with imaginative, color co-ordinated and good-looking liveries lately?  Insane

I'm not sure if SQ wants to paint this livery on the A380-800, that's to be sure.

It perhaps aint the most wonderful livery, but the most practical. With this new livery they dont have to a repaint everytime a new airline join star.
I read on SAS website that they will also have there red engins.

SK945,
Those are exactly my thoughts.

All current variations of the Star Alliance livery are ridiculously out-of-date, either because they feature the names of airlines that are no longer in existence (Ansett) or they omit the names of newer members (Spanair, LOT, Asiana) I'm sure it must be somewhat embarrassing for members flying around aircraft featuring a bankrupt airline's logo.

As the alliance expands, painting every logo onto the Star Alliance aircraft becomes complex, and as the membership changes the scheme becomes obsolete.

This new scheme presents a uniform image of the Star Alliance, plus it gives added prominence to the operating carrier's logo.

In my opinion this livery is a lot more business like than the 2 old schemes, which were ugly and looked like they'd been cobbled together by a child, especially the first one with "chunks" of each of the founder members' liveries!

Totally agree with you Crosswind! Flying around with a bankrupt airlins name on your fuselage must be slightly amusing to others outside the alliance. While Ansett was a great airline they no longer exist and yet there name still appears on aircraft sides and at lounges. Being the biggest alliance does have its drawbacks, namely airline names joining and dropping out. If ANZ ends up with QF thats another brand name to be dropped.

True. But the 3 new members has not officially joining Star Alliance yet.

The title "Star Alliance" looks dull though.

Nice drawing, Mikephotos! It remindes me on the prototypes of new airliners. They're featuring the tail-logos of the launch customers on the fuselage. Nice one!

To the main topic: I think that the leaders of the Star Alliance take another step to build up a strong brand. The planes with the new livery will look pretty the same - no matter what airline is operation them. The small logo on the front section of the fuselage will not be noticed by passengers. They're flying Star Alliance then.

I wonder whether they will continue to integrate all liveries to one single group identity. They already did some moves into this directions. Furthermore, that wouldn't only cover the fuselage design. Also in the interior of the plane, they could introduce a Star Alliance cabin with similar features and products for each airline, just with different logos on it...

Will be interesting to see where that leads to.

that livery (referring to Mikephoto's) looks great except i don't really like the flags being separated ....maybe they should go on the upper portion of the fuselage...

Why can't they just update the current livery?

Because it would cost lots of money to update the logos. Plus, it's still unsure whether Qantas will put ANZ away from Star, and LH pulls Lan Chile away from OneWorld.

Airways: nice thought to level the interior and products but then i hope they would all meet up on the SQ level, something which might actually be a very long way for AC or LH.
As for the livery, it is boring that's for sure and i hope SQ can get away with painting just a 310 flying on low profile routes.

The actual Star Alliance colours is simply crap!

If your going to do a livery like that then at least made the lettering bold, its way too thin at the moment, just looks like a load of sticks put together.

I think Mikephotos effort is brilliant! With regard to the cost, if they used the little tails as on that then they would only have to use stickers which would be easy and cheap to alter on one or two aircraft in an airlines fleet, while at the same time it would still be advertising the alliance and letting people know the members in it. I think that would be a really good idea.
