Li-2? Or DC-3?

Tue Nov 26, 2002 8:08 pm

Below is a postcard of a Cubana aircraft, but what I am trying to ascertain is if it is an Li-2 or DC-3? Cubana operated both aircraft, and there is no markings on the back which indicate this.

Don't let the file name fool you, as this isn't a quiz, but a genuine question  Laugh out loud

I would guess it is a DC-3, because by the time Cuba fell into the Soviet sphere, the Li-2 would have long been out of standard use - having gone to early jets and leter prop-planes. And I'm sure there were hundreds of DC-3s in Cuba from the 40s and 50s.

I just confirmed it. Cubana operated a number of DC-3s and C-47s, and the only Soviet-built piston-engined planes were Il-14s, which don't look quite the same.

I'd have to agree, though it's hard to tell since the airtist didn't do the airframe any justice.
