Is it maybe an emergency landing or a diversion caused by the thunderstorms in Europe or for any other cause?

I read several reports, some say its a MD-80 of Alitalia, some say its a 737 flying on "behalf of Alitalia and Air France".

According to Fox News Channel, the man has been identified as an Italian male.

He supposedly jumped into the aisle in flight, yelling, "I am a terrorist. I support al Qaeda. I have a bomb, and I'm hijacking this airplane."

No word on whether or not the passengers proceeded to kick the snot out of him or not.  Big grin

French police stormed the aircraft upon landing at Lyon, and took him into custody.

Between BLQ and CDG, Alitalia and Air France have 6 daily flights in each direction, 3 operated by AZ and 3 by AF and they are all in code-sharing.

Since the Italian press confirmed it was flight AZ 364, it should be an MDD-80.
Press reported the the hijacker has been arrested and he is an Italian man with mental problems.

The Hijacker is an Italian man, called Stefano Savorani, affected by psychic problems. He said he Hijacked the plane "to simulate an attack against Bin Laden" (??).
The man is not new to this kind of things: in 1999 he tried to Hijack an AirFrance flight between Marseille an Paris and in 1998 he tried to do the same thing with the Italian "Eurostar" train between Milan and Rome and divert it to Paris!! (how can you Hijack a train?!).

And you guys say that the security in the US is bad !!, how does a guy with two prior hijacking convictions get let aboard a plane ?, and how come most of these silly events keep involving Paris in one way or another ? French security is awful. I have flown out of CDG many times this year, and most times the security was extremely flawed

Time to ban this goof from all modes of transportation. He will continue to do this sort of thing if he gets the opportunity.

Why is a guy who attempted to hijack a plane in 1999 not in jail???
Why is this guy allowed to fly at all, just three years from his hijack attempt??
Isn't there some sort of blacklist??

How about this: Richard Reid, the AA shoe bomber, will he be on another AA flight three years from now? Think not!

On board there were 15 French and 2 Russian people, all the others were Italian.
I've just seen the pictures at the French TV.

Jeremy"

The flight originated from Bologna... how the hell is Paris security responsible for what happened? I also suspect that after his previous attempts they realized that the guy is mentally ill and probably not considered a "real" threat compared to an actual terrorist. Just my guess though.

"The man's mother, on learning that her son had hijacked a plane, reacted by saying: "My God, he's done it again!", said Italian newspaper La Repubblica website"

despite the serious questions this latest charade raises, there's always room for some humour, eh?
