Egyptair - Why MS?

Thu Nov 04, 1999 4:23 am

I was just curious to find out why Eqyptair had the flight code MS. In fact, the airline was once called Misr Air, the Misr coming from the Arabic name for Egypt, Misr.

(Incidentally, Egyptair had a slight prang at JFK earlier during the Summer. A pilot was given a severe ticking off and suspended after the wing of a 777 hit a pole, causing substantial damage.)

The same question could be asked of (the late, great) Reno Air - QQ , or Southwest - WN , or any number of other airline codes.
