Best Seat On 744?

Tue Dec 03, 2002 2:03 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm currently booked on CX JFK-YVR-HKG in December. I have seat 66A pre-assigned, I couldn't get exit row or bulkhead as they were already taken. Any recommendations for the best seat on CX's 744 in Y?

Thanks

The front left on the upper deck is usually the best seat in the house!!!

66A is pretty good as it is one of only two seats, with heaps of room next to you. Any of the exit rows are also good (44 or 55).

If you like to see what's going on outside make sure you don't get one of the center aisle seats they sux. I was stuck in the center aisle of QF 747-400 for 9 hours SYD-HNL and it was boring. I also got stuck in the center aisle on DC-10 from HNL-LAX. My favourite seat on the 747 is a window seat either slightly in front of the wing or slightly behind. That way you can still see the scenery below you and you can also see all the "action" happening on the wing i.e spoiler coming up/down, ailerons moving and slats coming up/down. You also get a great view of the engine and you may even be able to see contrails coming out of the engines like i did.

If you're tall and desire some more legroom, seat 67A or 67K will be slightly more desirable. You still have gobs of elbow room on your left or right, but is closer to the window for an easier view outside. Best of all, you can really stretch your legs using that huge empty space between the sidewall and the window seat of row 66 right in front of you (look at the seat map above and try visualizing). Whereas in seat 66A, your legs are limited to whatever space is available under the seats of row 65.

I flew LAX-HKG on a CX744 in August, seated in 67A. The opportunity to really stretch my legs while seated made a big difference. Managed to sleep for a continuous 6 hours over the Pacific, a personal record!!

One potential problem with the exit-row or bulkhead seats is that the tray tables have to retract into the space between the seats. As a result, the "armrest" between the seats are thicker and unmovable, making for an effectively narrower seat. Also at those seats, you have to fold away the PTV's during takeoff and landing, which may cause you to miss the airshow during these two interesting phases of the flight.
