New Year's In The Air

Wed Dec 04, 2002 3:05 am

Hey everyone,

I'll be flying across North America at midnight on 12/31. I was wondering if any of you have had New Year's flight experiences? Did the crew do anything special, did the captain make an announcement, etc.? Also, were you able to see any fireworks displays from the plane?

Cheers

Saw some spectacular lightning from above dark Africa. Quite a sight. Fireworks should be interesting as well from a darken sky...
What are your [local] departure and arrival times?

Kind regards,

I had a flight on Pan Am on New Year's Eve in 1987 from LAX to London. The pilot made a brief announcement when the ball dropped in Times Square in New York City. That was it. No festivity whatsoever.

Turns out I'm flying on 12/31 this year also, a UAL flight from JFK to SFO getting in well before midnight. I just hope UAL is still in business...

Flew IAD-CDG-LHR in 2000/01 on AF.

I was quite disappointed to be honest, they could have at least handed out some champagne  Sad - nope! Coach was less than half full!

The Captain didn't even mention anything !!

As the flight left around 8.00pm US time, most probably the crew had celebrated the New Year (Paris time) even before boarding the flight  Smile

No, Didn't see any fireworks at FL370 Big grin

Mind you, I flew out on Christmas day and AF did hand out Santa shaped chocolates which I thought was a nice touch - hence my above expectation on the New Year's eve flight.
