Given that the new routes will replace Air Canada mainline, I don't think Zip is really taking too much business away from WestJet. One has to see if Zip's costs are significantly lower than mainline, to really warrant the new venture. Maybe the net effect is positive for Air Canada, but I wouldn't think it would be dramatically so. They are independent, according to Air Canada, so hopefully we'll get some financial information out of them shortly.
