Viva Airlines, Inc. to Merge With Auxer
Thursday December 5, 2:21 pm ET

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2002--Viva Airlines, Inc. announced today that it has reached an agreement to merge with The Auxer Group, Inc. (OTCBB:AXGI - News).
Robert J. Scott, Viva's President and Chief Executive Officer has accepted an invitation to join Auxer's Board of Directors and will immediately become interim President and Chief Executive Officer of Auxer upon the anticipated completion of the merger; which is expected to occur by mid-December.

Viva Airlines, Inc. is a Puerto Rico Corporation that is preparing to provide passenger and cargo air service from San Juan, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean locations to various North American destinations beginning in the first quarter of 2003.

Viva has contracted with Falcon Air Express of Miami to provide turnkey flight operations; and with Professional Aircraft Services, Inc. of Puerto Rico to provide professional ground services within The Islands and US mainland.

Viva has engaged Loan Star Investments of Dallas, Texas to assist the Company with equipment and other financing requirements.

Robert Scott said, "The merger with Auxer accelerates the Company's plans to provide air and cargo services into the Caribbean. The Company's concentration will be on this `niche' market. Viva based in San Juan will operate a fleet of aircraft that will accentuate the Country's colors, flag and cuisine. We believe the Company is positioned to have a competitive advantage over other carriers from our very first day of operation."

Viva Air was Iberias charter airline. They flew about 11 737-300's all through Europe, the Meditterenean, Canary Island, and even to Africa and Middle East.

This is really interesting...Does anyone know anything else about this group of investors? What about the airline? Planes, routes, fares, destinations from each city etc???? Are they going to fly intra-PR routes?

Never heard of either of these two outfits. Apparently the flight will be operated by Falcon Air Express (727's). This isn't the first time this type of airline is created in Puerto Rico. I can recall about half a dozen that utilized Miami Air or Falcon 727's to fly from SJU to different points on the US-usually the East Coast and Florida. These "airlines" would be around for a few months and then vanish. This seems like another one of those airlines.

Iberia's subsidiary Viva Air I believe merged into Iberia in 1997 since Iberia thought that they have no more use for Viva Air.

This does seem like very good news and it would be a dream if we see this airline suceed but forgive me for being a pesimist but this airline seems to be another East Caribbean. East Caribbean had the same intentions that this airline has but with flights out PSE (they just operated 1 flight and left people holding tickets stranded and without their money back ). Maybe Im wrong and we might see this airline grow like Aeromar in The Dominican Republic which flies between Santiago and Santo Domingo to New York and Miami but I really doubt it. Ive seen so many of these so called Puerto Rican airlines never fly or fly for a very limited time .Only a well funded company with a well established business plan could pull this off. Nothing in the Puerto Rican media has been reported at least not in the newspapers by the way have you seen their website- they could have tried to do something more profesional looking.

Are they a part of Iberia now, or no? It says they fly to Madrid....and I hope it's not on a 727 haha.

Just another paper airline. The fact that they are using Falcon Air aircraft and services would be enough to keep me away!

Just a case of... subete, amarrate y matate!

Don't know what to make of this one. Could be either way. If Falcon Air has the contract to operate the initial routes, then it's possible that they may survive long enough to get their own planes. They're going to need a lot of capital, though.
