Bit Of Good News: Last DC-10 To Return.

Fri Dec 06, 2002 8:42 am

Hi folks...
With all the sad news within the airlines' industry, I found a little ray of hope today on one particular aircraft. The last DC-10 ever assembled, line #446, is being returned to service with none other than World Airways. She's being prep at Greensboro at this time. Personally I'm fond of the DC-10...always been a favorite of mine even tho the -10 has gotten a bad rap all these years. Anyhow, I thought I share this bit of good news with you all.  Wink/being sarcastic Regards.

long live the DC-10!

I have noticed World doing a lot of Air Force fights lately (even more than usual). I guess war isn't bad for all the airlines...

Thast good news heck he sint that old anyways what built in 88 or 89 just as young as some 744's out their. It just gets me when some assume that every aircraft of a line is old because the original was made nearly 20 years before the last off the line.

Long live the tri-jets!!! As strong as the cargo business is, I bet we will see more DC-10's and MD-11's flying with the likes of FedEx, UPS, and the many other cargo carriers!

Speaking of DC-10s, I saw three parked at IND in FedEx colors last week. Is this common?

That airplane was going to be N318FE but World bought it from FEDEX before it was built. DC10's (and MD10'S & 11'S) will be flying cargo for a long long time, The DC10 is one of the greatest airplanes ever made. (the DC-8 is a close 2nd in my book too.) Fedex has 89 DC-10's/MD-10's and Indy is the 2nd biggest hub for them.
Next time try the old "dirty Sanchez" She'll love it !!!

Pooh-Pooh on the anti DC-10 folks. I love that plane too. After doing some on-line research on incidents, the VAST majority seem to be human error, not the fault of the plane herself. Just my .02 I personally would like to see her remain in the air for decades.

Whilst i dont put the 10 in my top 5 of 'lookers', it will always have a soft spot for me as it was the first jet i flew in , Laker Skytrain in 1974, still cant get over the climb out of Gatwick.
Hope its around for a few years yet
