KIX NH-UA Connection

Wed Dec 11, 2002 11:53 am

What is it like connecting from UA to NH (or vice versa) in Kansai? I will be travelling to Okinawa (non-revenue, no bags) and wanted to know what I would experience.

Thanks!

This past summer, I went to Okinawa via Kansai with All Nippon and Northwest. For more info about the airport and the layout, Kansai's website http://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/english is helpful. I'm not sure if United will check you into Okinawa at your origin or if you will need to check in with ANA. I usually expect immigration and customs there to be over quickly; you should be into the terminal in less than an hour after your arrival. You will need to get back into the domestic gates for your ANA flight on the 2nd floor and possibly check in with ANA if United didn't check you into Okinawa. If you have some extra time to kill, I suggest exploring the terminal which offers a lot of good restaraunts and stores mostly located on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Kansai also has an observation deck and I hear it's great for aviation enthusiasts.
Have a nice trip!

They can check your bags the whole way... I don't know if UA can issue NH boarding passes or not.

"They can check your bags the whole way"

First of all the guy said he has no bags, so that is irrelevant. But your answer is wrong anyway. When connecting at KIX from an international flight to a domestic flight, you must clear customs and immigration and then proceed to the domestic check-in.....(been there, seen it, done it)

So sorry... UA makes a point about informing Star Alliance customers that your bags will be checked in to their final destination.

Most airports make you get your bag to clear custom then return them to the conveyor, without acquiring new tags.

But thanks for being a jackass about it, Snoopy.

What's with the Jackass? Sorry, if the message was short and to the point, but you were wrong. I didn't insult you, call you names or anything of the sort, I just said that you had answered the question incorrectly. You cannot check through bags from an international to a domestic flight at KIX. End of Story.

If you don't KNOW for sure, PLEASE don't answer the question as if you do....

Sorry for having bent you out of shape Gigneil.

This is helpful though, thanks. I work for UA and am traveling lightly. So no bags to check. I can't get checked in by UA because I am non-revenue. But its good to know I will need at least an hour after arrival.

How far is it from ANA domestic gates to the UA gate? Does anyone know if they have the mini-hotel room facilities like Narita? What about ANA's carry on policy?

Thanks again!

Snoopy,

Sorry to have gotten to the name calling point, but occasionally the impolite nature of people gets to me and I had reached my limit for that day.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I realize there's a fine line between impolite and brief. Sorry.

Hi ! Arriving on UA, you will first have to clear immigration and customs. Then check in with NH. UA is at one end of the Terminal and all domestic flights are in the middle of the terminal. There are people movers on top of the terminal that could cut time when you connect. Take Care ! The777Man

I think United uses the gates near the north end of the terminal so you will need to take the wing shuttle to immigration. After clearing immigration, you will be in the termina in 1st floorl. The domestic gates are next to the terminal area on the 2nd floor. I believe ANA uses the northern half of the domestic gates so go through the North Domestic Departures security checkpoint in the 2nd floor.

JC5280: Here's a link you can check out that explains ANA's domestic carry-on policy.

Made it here just fine, thanks everyone!

The United flight was fantastic, although it took us forever to get off the ground in SFO due to the winds. Our route was up and over the wine country, Seattle, and then just south of ANC. We flew in over Tokyo and right on top of Mt. Fuji.

Kansai is a great airport! So easy to use and navigate. My ANA check in experience was great (their english was so-so but we made out allright) and their flight was on-time and efficient. Filled with many Americans and US Military going to Okinawa bases.

The only disadvantage was that my 22" rollaboard bag had to be checked by ANA per their policy. I should have expected this since I do so much work in Europe, but it was no big deal.

I will be flying back through tomorrow or the next day. I am planning on giving myself a little extra time with the connection since I will need to check my bag again to KIX (not through to SFO).
