Alitalia EZE-ITALY And El Al ITALY-TLV. Need Help

Tue Dec 17, 2002 1:14 pm

Hi

On december 29th I'll be going to Israel from Buenos Aires, connecting in italy. Don't know which city though.

Because I go with a 500 teens group, we were told that we are going to Italy with Alitalia and then to israel with El Al. I do know that we land at TLV.

My question is:
Can you guys tell me which airplanes I'll be flying in ? 'Cause I have no clue what airplanes both Alitalia and El Al use on this routes.

Thank you very much in advance.

Alitalia uses MDD-11 both to MXP and FCO from EZE. From FCO and MXP to TLV AZ uses A321.

Rome Fiumicino 07.15+1 day
MD-11

LY386

Since you fly with 500 guys it sounds like a special flight/flights (at least the leg to Israel) so it will be difficult to tell which aircraft you are going to fly in.

Long live the B747

No, it's not a charter. Birthright Israel, the organization, purchased regular tickets. We'll be going in separate flights and days.

One question:

Is your information you provided absolute ?. I mean, are there any other flights I should take into account that might not match those you mentioned above ?

Thanks in advance.

There is only one Alitalia flight from Buenos Aires to Italy on December 29 and this flight is to Rome Fiumicino. There are three weekly flights from Buenos Aires to both Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino and they are logically not operated on the same days. BTW, this flight to Rom is fully booked in Economy Class  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

There is also only one El Al flight on December 30 from Rome Fiumicino to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion, so I am quite sure you will be travelling on those flights. However, equipment changes always happen ...

In any case if you are 500 teens group, for sure you will fly from EZE to Italy with two flights. AZ MDD-11 has 253 seats in Economy (174Y for the Combi version).

It's likely that on the Italy-TLV flight you will also use an AZ flight.

Why the two stops in Italy? Thats a pain.

Does LY and AZ have any commerical agreements or code-shares?

AZ is SkyTeam and LY code-shares with DL in the US.

Alitalia operates a daily flight from MXP to TLV and another daily FCO-TLV both with A321 (these flights stop at LCA on the way to TLV for crew change; effective OCT02).
El Al flies 5 times a week to MXP and FCO (on winter), these flights are operated with anything from 73G to 762 at most cases, with the option for a 777 or 744 at the 'right' occasions.

AZ's MXP-TLV flight is a morning flight which lands at TLV daily around 16:00.

No codeshare between LY and AZ, nor commercial agreements.

To EZE from TLV, LY offers its pax to fly to MAD on LY and connect to IB on a special fare. IB and LY do codeshare and have a commercial agreement for South-American flights sectors.

Ouch, why stop at two Italian airports? Fiumicino is already enough of a pain in the ass to transit in. Furthermore I wouldn't be surprised if you experience luggage delays at FCO/MXP because they can totally forget to take your luggage out, and passenger assistance has to make a few calls to the baggage handlers.

One thing though, Alitalia service is great(at least on 1 hr flight segments) but there will be no PTVs on any of the aircraft you'll be flying, so bring a good, long book.

Alitalia A320/321s have small LCD TV every 3 rows and they show air-show and sit-com. Haedphone for the 8 radio channels are complimentary.

45 minutes transit time in FCO and MXP in the Christmas time is a hell. Be ready to wait 2/3 days before you will get your luggage.

Please write a trip report later Smile

Thank you guys for your info and advises.
Now, I was just wondering why my trip organization chose EZE-FCO-MXP-TLV with Alitalia the entire legs.
Don't Alitalia have direct flights to TLV from FCO ?.

Airblue, I didn't get any headphones on my A321 flight(FCO-CTA), perhaps it was due to the flight time?(1 hr)

9V-SVA, it was due to the flight time, they usually give it for flights over 2 hours.

Jgore, Alitalia have a daily direct flight to TLV from FCO, but it leaves late in the evening and you will arrive in FCO early in the morning, that's mean 14 hours between the two flights.
