Croatia Airlines Questions

Tue Dec 17, 2002 9:49 pm

Planning a last minute xmas / new years trip to Croatia with a friend from work who has family there on the coast, sounds beautiful.

We'll be flying JFK-LHR-Zargreb-Split. Returning Zadar-Zagreb-LHR-JFK.

JFK-LHR routes will be on Virgin which we all know about, but all other legs will be with Croatia Airlines. Would any body care to comment on anything about them? Planes, service, safety, etc? Planes will be, in order: A319, BAE146, ATR42, A319.

As far as safety goes, the state department website says "the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not assessed Croatia's Civil Aviation Authority for compliance with international aviation safety standards."

However, on Croatia airlines website, it says that in 2001 the German equivalent of the FAA gave them a JAR 145 certificate.

I am not an expert (like Tomislav/9A-CRO), but I have flown on Croatia airlines numerous times in the last five years. I have been on their Rome-Split, Frankfurt-Split, London-Zagreb-Dubrovnik routes. They have replaced their old 732s with a small fleet of A320s and 319s, plus the ATRs. "OU" is not a large airline, but they are well run and efficient. The airlcraft are clean and new. Cabin service is good, and the food is tasty. They are generally punctual (the Zagreb "hub" is never a problem). They code-share with LH (your best bet for travel from the USA to Croatia), AF, Austrian, and Alitalia. I believe they used to code share with Virgin, but not anymore. Don't worry about their safety record; they are in fine shape and I would not hesitate flyiing them again. I am even in their frequent flyer program! Have a good trip!

As for safety you don't need to worry.
Croatia Airlines performs some maintenace for LH so that gives them real credibility in that matter.
I'll have to admit that I only flew once with them on a charter flight. Seats are comfortable.
BAE146 is on lease from Flightline UK and all other airplanes are owned by Croatia Airlines.
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward...

I have flown with OU plenty of times, and I just flew with them in July. They have new planes, service is very good, food is good, and I am also a frequent flier member. The croatian coast on the adriatic is very beautiful, you will have a great trip
