PIA 743 At JFK Instead Of 74M On Wed 18th?

Thu Dec 19, 2002 2:43 am

I just saw on trackaflight.com that PK721/PK 722 on 12/18/2003 is a 743. This flight is the one weekly flight from NY to KHI without a stop in Lahore or Islamabad, however it is always most definately operated by a 742 mixed passenger/freighter aircraft. I would think that with the one grounded 743 at LHR, PK wouldn't have the flexibility to put another 743 on the usual 74M route. Anybody know why the switch??

Just a guess, but with a heavy travel period, they need the
extra capacity of the B743?
Cargo doesn't whine, moan, or complain

Initially i thought the same thing, but then again most of PIA's flights are oversold to Lahore, which according to many is a great source of passenger revenue for the airline. Karachi is a better source of Cargo revenue then the other cities in Pakistan. They uplift a decent amount of cargo from JFK on a weekly basis. People travelling to Lahore dislike connecting thru Karachi when flights are available to Lahore directly. In worst case scenarios they would opt for the ISB flights since ISB is a lot closer to LHE then is KHI.

I was thinking more on the lines of a technical problem with either of the 74M's.

Who knows?? maybe ur right--PIA is great with their variations of aircraft for whatever reasons.

Hi

Bigmo747

I saw the 743 depart today at MAN for New York (PK721). I thought it was unusual that the 74M was not operating on this flight.

I presume it would either be extra capacity needed or the 747-300 stuck at LHR (AP-BFV). Can anyone confirm whether the 743 at LHR has been moved ?

Could be the xmas, new year rush that people are flying back home. Will let you know, once I gather more details.

More info regarding the 747-300 nose gear problem at LHR.....

On Saturday 7th of December a Pia 747-300 Aircraft suffered a blown trye whilst taxiing to its departure runway. The aircraft returned to the gate, and the pasenengers were allocated to three 5 hotels around Heathrow Airport. The flight finally left using an inbound aircraft from Islamabad, on Monday morning at 12.30

According to the PIA website, todays two London Heathrow flights:

PK 787 and PK 788 were both operated by the 74M. So this explains the a/c change. The 743 was swapped for one of the LHR flights.

Extra cargo consignments maybe, or as I said earlier additional capacity required for the MAN-JFK flight.

GF-A330,

PK787 and PK788 utilize the same aircraft. PK787 is the inbound from KHI into LHR and PK788 is the return flight.

My younger sister is leaving on PK724 for KHI tomorrow night and i just hope she doesn't get a 74M as she is looking forward to the PTV's in coach on the 743. It's pretty boring travelling for 20 odd hours without a PTV.

I checked on PK's website and so far PK723/724 is still a 743. Let's just keep our fingers crossed.

regards

Bigmo747,
I would advise your sister to take ample reading material as tea entertainment is not that interesting to say the least.

I presume she will be traveling on the upper deck. Much better service and much quieter
