Canada West Air Update

Fri Dec 20, 2002 1:18 pm

The latest issue of airwaynews/online reports that Canada West Air will commence charters in spring 2003 using 3 ex-SAS 763's from YEG, YYC & YVR to various Euro destinations!

If this is true, this is a huge capacity addition to the Western Canada transatlantic market. Right on top of HMY's new Euro plans next summer.

I wish I had that kind of money to spend....

I think they have already started Euro flights with the 757...see pic:

Although I wonder if it really is that much of an addition, as C3 used to keep and A330 going through western canada to Europe in the summers...

I think HMY is only flying southern routes to Mex from YVR/YYC right now, with a plan to add Euro flights via KEF in the summer.

I just remembered something I read on the YYZnews site...

"HMY Airways (HQ/HMY) will begin their first trans-Atlantic route December 16th with a weekly Boeing 757 operating from Vancouver and Calgary to Manchester UK via Keflavik (for fuel only). The weekly trip is to run through to April 7th at which time the summer 2003 schedule will probably kick in." (YYZnews.com)

Thanks Slawko, I stand corrected.

Man, I could not imagine parking my 6-2 frame in the middle seat on a 752 routing YVR-YYC-KEF-MAN. Yikes! What's that.....perhaps a 12-hour narrowbody routing? I once did YYZ-PIK-ATH in a WG DC-8....ever since its widebodies for me across the pond!

HEHEHE, I can't imagine what it will be like if he decided to go to Asia with thsoe things....I think he could get a 767 full to asia from YC/VR the website indicates that they do have a two class layout so he may just be able to do it, although a -200ER may be a bit better suited to a smaller charter startup...I dunno...

BTW, C-GMYD (HMY, picture) is c/n24254, delivered to El Al in July 1988, 757-258ER. I wonder if it still has LY's double cockpit door arrangement.

Their other a/c, C-GMYC, is also ex-LY (23917, former 4X-EBL, delivered in November 1987). Has anyone been inside one of these?
