In the 70's, QF's primary US gateway was SFO. ANZ flew to LAX. QF added LAX in the early 80's and slowly built up the LAX gateway and drew down the SFO gateway.
Regarding the proposed AC YVR-SYD 345 nonstop, AC has also proposed a daily YYZ-HKG nonstop 345. Since AC will only be getting 2 345's next year, only 1 of these routes will be added.
