4 Fallen Airlines Debut In New Movie

Wed Dec 25, 2002 6:10 am

There was a quick quip in the local paper today about the movie:
"Catch Me If You Can"

There is a scene at the end where Leonardo struts past the ticket counters of 4 defunct airline carriers.

Pan Am
TWA
National
Eastern

Just for your info, that's all.
Enjoy the holidays and the movie if you see it.

True! I hear there are even more scenes in the movie that we'll all gush over. Could have sworn I saw a CV880 or CV990.

Anyway, it should be a good movie. I think lots of good movies were based off of true stories. . .such as this one.

I think this movie will kick up some inaccurate scenes as well which are always fun to try and spot as an airliner buff.

Not having seen the movie, I have to wonder:

If this scene shows him walking continuously past one, then another...how is this possible, since those four carriers occupied four totally different terminals at IDL/JFK?

Just read this whole posting again and I noticed I wrote, "Could have sworn I saw a CV880 or CV990." I would just like to add that I thought I saw this in the coming attractions. It was a split-second screen, but hey, maybe I saw it, maybe I was hopeful. Either way I'm still looking forward to the actual movie.

It's even better. Leo impersonates a Pan Am captain.

I saw it. The only thing I noticed that was wrong was the sculptured wall panels in the 707. As far as I remember, they came with the Widebody Look in the early seventies, and I think that scene was set in the sixties.

No No No. He impersonates a PAN AM Copilot.

And I noticed the error where it said PAN AMERICAN AIRLINES. When it shoulda said PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYS.

Just saw the movie yesterday, very good movie... I'm about 99.5% that the airport scenes were shot at the old Ontario terminal. Can anybody confirm?

The airport scenes were shot at TWA's JFK Flight Center, shortly after it closed down last year.

Unless the lack of realism approaches that of either "Die Hard 2" or "Airport 77: the Concorde" I'll be in line to see it. Especially with regards to the other trash that is being shown these days that you couldn't pay me to see.

I should have been much more specific. I meant to say the Miami Intl Airport scenes were shot at Ontario.

Fallen Airline, Reason.

Tue Dec 31, 2002 10:47 pm

The Reason why he walked by fallen airlines, is so they didn't have to deal with the airlines and pay fees etc., and the reason why there were old planes was not to spend money on new AC.

I CAN confirm that it was shot at both the old, and new terminals.

All the in plane shots were at the new, and everything else was at the old.

You can see the old tower in the background in the trailer, and in one shot with the DC-8, you can see the cargo building that I used to work in (used to, becuase they are now getting ready to tear down the whole old terminal and build a GIGANTIC cargo facility.

I was really quite fun watching one of the production guys come over and yell at us everytime a 53 foot trailer pulled in to offload freight  Smile .

I have seen the movie too, and I noticed (plus someone on a different post mentioned) that when they are coming in to New York Leo says he can see runway "44" which of course isn't possible. Also, they did the typical movie error when they showed an airplane landing that wasn't at all what they were supposedly riding. They had a great shot of a 707 in flight, does anyone know if that was file footage from something else? Otherwise great movie . . . Makes you want to be an airline pilot back in those days when kids would ask for an autograph just because you were an airline pilot, and all the ladies wanted you for other reasons  Love . Enjoy everyone!
