Great Lakes Airlines Follows Frontier's Lead

Thu Dec 26, 2002 6:49 am

Just an FYI... if you go to Denver, take a close look at some of the tails of their Beechcraft 1900Ds...

Great Lakes is now applying decals to the tails that represent wildlife and nature in the Midwest and Rockies regions....

I'm wondering if there are any shots of them on Airliners.net...

I noticed it says Hays Kansas on the back of the plane, close to the tail.

Isnt there a dinasore museum in Hays? They fly to Hays, right?

Maybe they are doing a tail promotion of some of the town they fly to. Kinda cool if you ask me.

I guess each tail represents a destination. This one has Hays since they have some dinosaur skeleton on display there or something. They fly to Hays.

Do the Frontier Jet Express CRJs have animals on their tales?

Another question...

If Frontier is supposed to show animals found on the frontier, than how come one of the planes has a humpback whale?

Atcboy73,

That's correct. Great Lakes paints there tails representing attractions to places they fly to. There is also one Beechcraft 1900D painted with Devil's Tower in Wyoming on it.

Sort of like what Western Pacific did. It generates a little bit of extra revenue.

No, this is Frontier JetExpress' livery:

Basically it has the same big bold letters on the new Frontier livery with a slightly modified Mesa logo on the tail.

I think it's quite nice. Although the wildlife tails would have been nice also.

No one ever said Frontier is supposed to only show animals found on the frontier. They're theme really is all kinds of wild-life.

Also, none of Frontier's planes have a humpback whale. One of there A319s however has a killer whale or orca.

Ok, yeah I just recall seeing a Frontier with a whale on it. I forgot what kind, I didn't think it was a Shamu though
