One thing i have learnt in this industry is never listen to what a pilot says about where the airline is flying too as it usually is the furthest from the truth. When you see it in print or as part of a flying schedule then its going to be true........otherwise take what they say with a pinch of salt?

Aussiestu,

The destinations have already been mentioned on the website of Qatar Airways http://www.qatarairways.com it is only the equipment of the PVG flight that the pilot gave me info about which is why I put it between brackets as I am not 100% firm on the info. Besides all the people I have spoken have proved to be pretty accurate.

Sounds like it is all GO at Qatar then. Good for them. They must be one of the quickest and fastest growing airlines around considering what is happening in the industry. Wonder where they are going to go with the A380, not just LHR i hope! Any talk of flying to the US???

I am hope so that if ever got newest Airbus A340 or B777 will chance for nonstop to United States into 2003 or 2004. I think. If they are made with US approvals to said OK will let it go for began service to United States.

Aussie,
United States from early 2004 on the A340-500, Australia too non-stop from Doha after that.

Arsenal,
Yeah it is kind of exotic and I believe there is a lot of potential, EK will be flying there too from the 1st of August 2003 but they already have cargo flights QR will be the only Gulf Airline to have passenger flights into Shanghai for only about 6 weeks.

9V-SVC,
I have heard of plans but nothing for next year, they looked at HKG, SIN and Vietnam as well.

Found a typo:

- Kochi (COK), India from March 2003 3x weekly A320-200"

The flight would be twice a week on the A320 and once with the A300.

Australia?

Is there a market for Australia?? It'd have to be with a long-range aircraft so they can offer an alternative one-stopper to Europe. I'd expect most of the pax to Australia would be transfer pax to Europe. I cannot see a market to Qatar from Australia.

The Coachman,

If you read my post you will see "Australia too non-stop from Doha after that". It is also a well known fact that most of there passengers are connecting passengers and there route network is structured to accomodate good connections. In 2001/2002 only about a third of the passengers carried by QR started or ended there journey in Doha the rest where all connecting.

There was some artical I saw at a store in Dearborn Michigan (large Arabic suburb of Detroit) about someone working as a marketing director for Qatar Airways to the U.S. Detroit was one of the cities mentioned.

I travelled on QR about a month ago, A300 A7-AFC from CGK to KUL. Very impressed with the airline - some of the best service I have experienced. The plane was very well fitted out, comfortable, and good IFE (given no PTVs on the A300s). Can't wait for the to fly to Australia!

And apparantly QR also reserved some slots for this A300 at AMS (allthough I reckon that now they're going to Liege it won't come true  Crying )

MilesDependent,

Nice to here about your experience hopefully with more A330's delivered the experience would be better with PTV's, new seats and extra legroom. BTW A7-AFC is the latest A300 to join QR's fleet (August 2002) it is on a short term lease that is why it is not in the full QR livery (see below).

LJ,

The reason why Liege was chosen over other airports was that it has a signifcant cost advantage, AMS is a bit on the expensive side.
