Asia's Largest Airline?

Mon Dec 30, 2002 3:51 pm

Anybody know Asia's largest airline by destinations served.

I would think it would Japan AirLines, All Nippon Airways, Korean Air or Malaysia Airlines?

Korean Air serves 75 destinations
SIA serves 63 destinations

I could not get info on JAL or any of the Chinese airlines.

there're many ways to measure the size of an airline.... by pax numbers, by RPKs, by fleet, by revenue etc etc....

by pax numbers it'll be JAL or ANA
others i don't have the information with me now....

MAS carries more passengers than Singapore Airlines. But I think Singapore Airlines is higher in terms of RPKs.

JAL is the largest airline in Asia in terms of RPKs.

ANA is Japan's largest airline, their domestic operations are so much bigger than JAL's. So that makes ANA probaply the largest airline in terms of passengers transported a year.

Korean Air Cargo is Asia's largest cargo airline.

JAL is the largest airline in Asia measured by RPK's.

They are the 9th largest in the world followed by Singapore at #11, Cathay at #15, Lorean at #17, China Airlines #18, China Southern #23 and Air China #25.
These figures are for Jan-June 2002

JAL (after the merger with JAS) is now Asia's largest and is now the world's 3rd largest after AA and UA.

PIA serves 52 international destinations in 43 countries together with 36 domestic points. With the expantion of the fleet (777s arriving next year), these numbers will get bigger.

The article posted above mentioned the combined JAL and JAS would be the 6th largest airline in the world - after United, American, Delta, Northwest and US Airways.
