YYZ Sunday Jan, 5th 2003 Gtae Meeting

Fri Jan 03, 2003 7:26 am

Just putting out a notice for the first gathering of the new year. I was thinking that we could get up to that old spot we used to use there near rwy23 if rwy23 is active sunday. I know that Marc (the new guy) and Myself are scheduled to be there, i am going to try for 2pm.

Anyone is welcome and new comers are also encouraged to email me for more info.

See you soon,

Grant

Hey I was looking at some pics and this Gary Tines or something like that, i should email that guy to come out, he likes taking pictures and i bet he has a lot to show. I have one of his pics on my desktop, an A340 in the morning sun, really cool.

Ok, So with this snow it sould make for an interesting back drop for the mostly white AC fleet, and the growing SSV mostly white fleet. Can't wait for airlines like KLM to show up, Hey boys, was that the new colour scheme KLM aircraft that was at YYZ last weekend?? I have a feeling it was in. Something looked strange to me, and now that i saw the comparison, there could be a chance.

Oh, Drip, thats a quebec airport.....Neil's Favorite!! And As you can tell, its underserved!!!

I'll be there tonight, Friday, Jan 03, 03, Saturday Maybe, and sunday for sure!!

Take care guys,

Grant

Nuno, saying that I'm from the Yukon is like telling Neil he's from YUL, not gonna happen. I'm in the Northwest Territories...I would of expected better from you.  Smile

Anyways, no, I'm flying the redeye back on Monday night, arriving first thing Tuesday morning into YYZ.

Besides, Im quite content spotting the twins on skis, the beat up First Air 732's and the DC-3's up here. (yeah right..)

Neil,

I leave in the later evening from here (YZF) on a 732 on First Air, arriving into YEG sometime around 9. From there its onto AC159 at 0:01 to YYZ arriving at 6:03.

As for the type of 732, its hard to say. It always depends on where the plane is arriving from. For example, if arriving from Edmonton, it would be all pax. Arriving from anywhere else (maybe other than Inuvik) it's usually combi, the further north its comming from, the less seats it has in it. Lately, C-GNWN has been configured into all pax (and completely falling apart) where as C-GNDC has been combi for sometime, I'm unaware of C-FNVT right now.

I'll check where its arriving from, then let you know what specific type it is. (if you're so interested)

KROC would have been awesome to meet! I'm sure he's a character and a half in real life.

Grant, you might be going to YYZ today? Anybody else want to go there today for a bit? I'd still like to get new people there today or tomorrow. Transactoid, I notice you posted on Boxing Day, but there weren't any replies! If you're leaving tomorrow for London, why not go there today, or can't you go tomorrow for a bit? I'd still like to see if B747-437B can make it this weekend, and also Rootsgirl!

However, I think it's going to be a quiet weekend with the usual suspects. Ho hum.  Sad

Just noticed on gtaa.com that JMC arrived last night from LGW about 9:30pm. Left at noon today back to LGW. Damn....I would have liked to have seen those gaudy green colours.

Don't know whether it was a 752 or 332.

So anybody new coming this time? How about B747-437B?

I just got into Pearson last night on KLM and it was an absolute mess. Landed at 610pm and only got to the gate just after 7pm. Bags took a further 90 minutes to come out and then it took us close to 2 hrs to get back to Markham on the 401. Sorry, but I am way too exhausted to make it back out there this weekend. Took me 68 hours door-to-door from BOM thanks to delays/misconnects and thats enough to jetlag the best of us, even in World Business Class.

Ah yes, the Pearson factor.

Last time I was out west, I decided to fly from Calgary to Toronto instead of Calgary to Hamilton. I figured I would get home earlier going through Pearson because the flight to YHM departed several hours later out of YYC.

Ha, silly me.

We arrived 10 minutes early at YYZ. Parked at the gate. It took 10 minutes to get off the plane. We're talking a B738, not a wide-body. Then we all huddle in at the carousel and after almost one full hour, the bags came trickling down.

So, when all said and done, I didn't save one minute. D'OH!

As much as I love spotting and photography at YYZ, I must say it leaves alot to be desired speaking as a passenger.

Dripstick

PS. I got some shots of Zoom today at YHM. Just downloading them now.

Hello all!

Yah, Pearson is a mess. Damn you if you take a wrong turn while trying to reach a terminal. Bound to leave fingerprints on the steering wheel. As for baggage? The guy handling your bag makes 8 bucks an hour and is overworked. Driving around the tarmac in my fuel truck, there's not a day that I don't swerve to avoid one lying in the middle of the vehicle corridors. It was one poor chap's bad day last week as I could not avoid it on time. Crunch! I was driving an automotive fuel tanker (for all the tugs and what have you). 30 tons. I dared not look in the rear view mirror.

Did I mention I love not doing customer service anymore?

Anyhoo, I'll be there tomorrow, anytime is good for me. BTW Andy, I can't wait to see those Zoom pics. Tell me it's not still in it's bastardised Monarch scheme.  Nuts

You're more than welcome, man!

Anyway... Yah... We'll be there mon cap-e-tan... At http://www.thresholdaviation.com sometime around 1400.
I'm not hearing too many aircraft flying overhead so I'm wondering which runways are they using? Oh wait... Isn't there a feature in the http://www.torontoaviation.com website that provides this information??? Yup... Seems they're using 24 & 23.  Wink/being sarcastic
