Mountain Helicopter - Fact Or Fiction?

Fri Jan 03, 2003 10:42 pm

Can anyone here confirm the story about a second-hand helicopter (possibly a Russian type) which was delivered to a mountainous area by cargo aircraft a couple of years back, maybe during a clear-out of ageing aircraft.

I heard that the place to which it was delivered was so far above sea level that the altitude exceeded the helicopter's ceiling height, with the result that it couldn't get off the ground.

Great story if it's true -- anyone able to pin it down?
