Airlines In Kyrgyzstan...Infomation?

Tue Jan 07, 2003 6:44 am

Hello,

Today I was talking with an exchange student who is in my school for the year, and she is from Kyrgyzstan...of course I was dying to know aviationwise how she managed to make it from Central Asia all the way to PHL, and I found out that to get part of the way here, she flew on a Kyrgyz airline from Bishkek to FRA...and from FRA took western carriers to get to PHL. This got me thinking about aviation over in that part of the world...what sort of airline operations take place there...and even GA ops as well? Can anyone comment on the aviation world over in Kyrgyzstan? What western carriers serve there?

Thanks,
Greg

British Mediterranean serves Bishkek and so, I think, does THY.

There are at least two Kyrgyz carriers - KIA and Kyrgyzstan Airlines.

Other airlines: Possibly Indian Airlines, Uzbekistan Airways and China Xinjiang.

I know kyrgyzstan airlines once flew to BHX, my mom even travelled with them to india via bishkek (never again she says). The plane was an old Tu-154, extremely dirty (the whole tail area was covered in black dust) and loud during take off. The planes were not very reliable and delays were commonplace, which is why they stopped serving BHX some years ago. There was rumours of them coming back with new(er) equipment, but nothing ever materialised.
I know Uzbekistan airways serves almaty, and most probably turkmenistan airlines, indian airlines does not. Other airlines that might serve bishkek are aeroflot, air khazakstan, air tajikistan and maybe some eastern european countries? Lufthansa may also serve bishkek.

Don't know who flies into the Kyrgyz Republic, but as an interesting sidenote.....I know an ATA 757 F/O that lives here in Dayton(very nice guy by the way) and in late November he had to fly for the government between Incirlik(sp?), Turkey and Bishkek. He said it took them 5 and a half hours each way. He also told me the local authorities tried to make him and the captain pay the landing fees(LOL). He said he was unnerved by the whole experience. Just thought I would add that to the discussion!

Kyrzyzstan airlines is mostly on time here in FRA, and their TU154M looks good in the new colors.
Long gone is their A320.
What is the status of Kyrgyz International, their A300-600 (TC-OAB) is back with Onur Air... and used for haj flights in basic old Saudia colors.
And then there is Itek Air which flies to IST regularly.

Kyrgyzstan Airlines flies to KUL and from KUL onwards to CGK although I do not know the frequencies. A Kyrgyzstan Airlines A300-600 was parked at KUL for a number of months and I do not have any idea why... maybe impounded? But I am most probably wrong as i do not even have the rego.. but last time i was there it was pouring heavily and could not see it..

There are a few Kyrgyz airlines.

* Kyrgyzstan Airlines (IATA: R8) - currently flying Tu-154, Tu-134 and Yak-40 equipment on various routes in Kyrgyzstan, the CIS, Europe and Middle Eastern regions.

http://www.kyrgyzair.de
http://www.kyrgyzstanairlines.kg

* Kyrgyz Air - was flying with an A300 of Onur Air, but is now reported to be flying MD-80 between Bishkek and Moscow. I say this because a friend in Moscow was looking at their flights and it states MD-80 equipment on the route.

http://www.kyrgyzair.com - under construction

* Itek Air - operates a single Tu-134 and single Tu-154 on charter flights. They are now reportedly flying scheduled routes and are hosted on TCH and Amadeus (am just waiting to hear from MOW about their routes). The airline has rights for Bishkek-Utapao, Bishkek-Moscow and Bishkek-Mashhad-Dubai

http://www.itekair.kg/ - under construction

* Altyn Air (IATA: QH) - A charter airline which uses aircraft leased from KHY (the Tu-154 in the photo linked by Aviastar above is a KHY example). They are also reported to have obtained the small fleet of An-28s from KHY (this was told to me by the CIS Sales Manager of KHY in Bishkek). The airline now also flies on scheduled routes Bishkek-Moscow, Bishkek-Tehran and Bishkek-Dubai. They also fly domestic routes Bishkek-Osh and Bishkek-Jalalabad with An-24 equipment.

http://www.altynair.kg/

* KAS Air (IATA: KW) - flies a single An-12 on charter cargo flights. They used to have a website but I can't seem to find it anymore.

* Botir-Avia (BA Airlines) (IATA: B8) - flies a single Yak-40 on charter flights, and 3 (from memory) Il-76s on charter flights throughout the CIS, China and Middle East regions.

* Quadrotour - operates a single Il-62. status and type of operations unknown. The airline is registered in both Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan with the Il-62 being registered in .kg

* Phoenix Aviation - although this carrier is based in Sharjah, the airline is registered as a Kyrgyz airline, hence the EX- registration on most of the aircraft.

* Aerovista - the same deal as Phoenix Aviation.

Other airlines which are scheduled visitors at Manas Airport include British Mediterranean, Turkish Airlines, China Xinjiang (China Southern Airlines), Aeroflot, Uzbekistan Airways, Enkor, Tajik Air,

KHY is the only scheduled airline. But she could have gotten there on a charter flight. 25kg is the industry standard for the CIS, so it is about right.

I am trying to get confirmation or further information as I write this. If I can find anything out I will post it here

Fly-K

Kyrgyzstan borders China, and the Kyrgyz people look very similar to the Uyghur people of China.

IMO I think she bears somewhat of a resemblance to a Chinese person...the Kyrgyz people came from China and Mongolia if Im not mistaken so its understandable...

What are you talking about a girl of "normal student age"? The girl in that photo is only 15  Laugh out loud

I am waiting to hear to from my guy in Moscow about some of the above (he said he will answer all my questions on Monday), but I have some further information here.

* Itek Air (IATA Code: GI) - They fly scheduled on the Manas-Domodedovo route it seems 3 times weekly, with equipment varying between Tu-134 and Tu-154.

These are the flights out of Manas to Moscow on a weekly basis:

http://www2.polets.ru/cgi-bin/sh.pl?Mode=Naprav&Source=Brief&Lang=Eng&CityFrom=bi%7B&CityTo=mow&Day=10&Month=1&Time=00&Period=7&Sort=w

This is the information for the Kyrgyzstan Airlines Bishkek-Frankfurt flight:

http://www2.polets.ru/cgi-bin/sh.pl?Mode=Naprav&Source=Brief&Lang=Eng&CityFrom=bi%7B&CityTo=fra&Day=10&Month=1&Time=00&Period=7&Sort=w

Whilst it isn't complete, here is some more flight information for Kyrgyzstan flights:

http://www2.polets.ru/cgi-bin/sh.pl?Mode=Naprav&CityFrom=bi{&CityTo=all&Day=10&Month=01&Time=00&Sort=w&Force=&Lang=Eng

Will revert back once I have more definitive info on Kyrgyz Air and Itek Air.

I have now heard back from MOW regarding my questions I had.

***This is the flight information for Kyrgyz Air:

N01FEBFRUSVO/AKT
** AMADEUS - TN ** SVO SHEREMETYEVO.RU 01FEB03 08FEB03
1 KT 601 X7 FRU SVO 1 0720 1010 0 15JAN03 --- M83 4:50

It should be noted that the FRU-SVO flight is the only Kyrgyz Air flight loaded into any CRS at this present time.

I am still waiting to hear about where they are sourcing the MD-83 from. Also, the airline's IATA code is KT

***This is for Itek Air

* 1A PLANNED FLIGHT INFO * GI 507 3 MO 13JAN
APT ARR DY DEP DY CLASS/MEAL EQP GRND EFT TTL
FRU 0915 MO Y/HP TU5 5:30
IST 1145 MO 5:30

In doing some research on Kyrgyz Air, I came across another airline called Asia Express. They are supposedly going to operate on the FRU-BHX route. The information which I have seen would point to Asia Express being the same airline as Kyrgyz Air (the airline code is the same for each airline: KT). Asia Express will be at http://www.asiaexpress.aero. I am just waiting to hear from a couple of people regarding this operation also.

sounds like interesting information- a new airline from asia to BHX. Seems like the central asian countries like BHX.
Any info on onward destinations from FRU, and plane that will be used?

Not yet Ammunition. I have made contact with a few people who seem to be involved (varying degrees) with this project and will report any info I can get.

Central Asian airlines like BHX because of the large numbers of people in BHX from the Indian sub-continent. It is a major source of revenue for these airlines.
