CX/DHL Wants Brand New A300-600F, No Converted

Tue Jan 07, 2003 9:47 am

Flight International this week reports that Cathay Pacific and DHL joint venture Air Hong Kong are poised to choose a new-build A300-600F, rather than B767-300F, or passenger to cargo version of A300.

The company has favoured for brand new A300, and it is expected to take 6 brand new model from 2004.

The battle for engine makers will be GE's CF6-80C2 and Pratt & Whitney's PW4158.

Currently UPS has the 90 brand new A300-600F on order. 24 has delivered.

Meanwhile, Air Hong Kong may lease additional A300B4-200F before new A300-600F arrives. The airline currently use A300 leased from Express.Net for Tokyo service.

Five regional freighters are due to be in service by 2004, growing to "at least eight" aircraft by 2010. DHL has a contract to develop and operate the Express Cargo Terminal at Hong Kong International Airport.

Heh the topic says no converted.

But then you said pax to cargo version.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

This would be fantastic for Airbus, obviously. I hope they put pressure on for the A332F.

Wonder if Airbus would speed up the line for this? Are all of FedEx's new ones delivered?

Is the CF6-80C for the A300 available at the same power as the one for the 74/76? If so, its a clear takeoff performance winner, which'd be good for a freighter.

While the A300 is clearly the better freighter, at least within its limited range, I wonder why Cathay didn't select the 767F just so it could have RR engines???

Pax to Cargo version of A300-600 was one of the aircraft that DHL/CX wants. But they decided to take brand new AB6 instead.

Do you mean a pax to cargo quickchange/combi? Or just a conversion?

We could be talking about different things.

When do we anticipate this announcement?

This is a continuing vote of Cathay's confidence in Airbus... hope they're also pleased with the 346.

Excellent news, although with Cathay, believe nothing till it is confirmed.

It wouldn't shock me at all if Airbus pulled an RB211 powered AB6 out of their asses to clench the deal.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Kidding, mostly.

RR engines on an A300? That would be different!  Smile

Anyway, It will be great to know once orders are made and confirmed.

Wouldn't they be painted in DHL colours? Air Hong Kong's colours aren't old, so I wouldn't say so if they were painted in them!
